OA?

Has anyone here had success with OA?  I find the meetings very positive.  I have yet to find a sponsor.  I was wondering if anyone here was successful with it and if your sponsor had had WLS or if that was an issue at all.

I'm still really struggling with the addition -- ugh!

Thanks!

Thank you for that link, I had been hoping to find a FB way to connect with OA.  I really want to attend meetings but haven't yet found the time to.

I'm on there as well.  I think I really need to find a face to face sponsor.  I'm going to check out some different meetings this week.  I want to conquer this.

I was in OA for at least 7 years before I had WL surgery.  Before surgery I made sure to get a sponsor that had also gone through WLS - she got the DS while I had VSG.  It was really important to me to work with someone who understood my motivation for getting the surgery and who would also recognize the sneaky ways a food addict like me could "eat around" the surgery.  She understands that WLS is just a tool and that OA is another tool that I absolutely need in order to be successful.  She's been awesome.

Having said that, I don't think it's completely necessary to have a sponsor who has had WLS for you to be successful in OA.  You need someone who has worked the 12 Steps and can guide you through them.  But make sure they are someone who RESPECTS your decision to have WLS.  I have run into a couple people in my area who definitely have an "attitude" about WLS.  They seem to think that I sold out or didn't work my OA program hard enough.   Yeah - those people can go jump in a friggin' lake!
