Okay I am not Frisco and this was not directed at me, feel free to reject anything I have to say.

I think you are treating hunger as something that must be avoided at all costs, even at the cost of potentially over-eating, damaging your sleeve capacity, etc. What I would say is focus on learning to live with hunger. You can be hungry and have it not be an emergency. Starvation is an emergency. Hunger is not. I find it helps if I make myself an eating schedule for the day. That way if I get hungry, I can tell myself, "okay, you are hungry now, but you can wait until 5 PM when you'll have the beef jerky snack. Focus on something else until then."

Hunger is not fun but you can deal with it for a couple of hours, and learning to put it aside and focus on something else is a crucial skill that most of us need to learn. I know I still struggle with it but I am trying and I have improved a lot.

Great post, Frisco!  And great response Bufflehead!  What you said is thought provoking.  "treating hunger as something that must be avoided at all costs, even at the cost of potentially over-eating, damaging your sleeve capacity".  So true!  I never thought of it that way. Thanks for the new perspective!  We are all not familiar with the feeling of hunger due to our overeating past.  It's a strangely frightening feeling.   We just have to remember that it is totally normal!

Frisco fantastic post again as usually... I believe at some point or another or to much we can all relate to this...I have and will continue to do everything to under eat my sleeve ... and eat but not over eat or eat till I'm full... however now that I'm 5 months out i do notice that sometime with certain thing I can eat so much more and it's always with the carbs ...Grrrrrr so like you and all the other vets have said I still try to avoid them... and stick with the proteins!!!! :-)

This is such an important point so I'm glad you've called it. Bottom line is you should not know you can eat 5 ounces when you should only be eating 3 .....

Agreed.  I anticipate I'll be weighing out my portions for the rest of my life because I just can't trust my "gut"  I want more - do not "need" more for satisfaction - but the want is there and I don't need to play around with that.

Great Post!

I will be 2.5 years Post Op on September 23, 2014  Crazy to believe!  I can now depending ion what I eat consume about 6-7 oz of dense food, however I don't pu****  I have gotten away a little with measuring my food as I do eat until satisfied but not full or stuffed. Yes everyone is different.  However I like the idea of staying at 4 oz but that doesn't happen much!

When I pack my breakfast/ lunch and snacks for work they are always portioned and without fail I either can't finish them or feel overfull within 10 minutes of eating.  I keep my portion sizes to 1/2 cup for dense protein and 3/4 cup for "other" foods.

But even a handful of almonds makes me feel over full.

Any thoughts?
