"Give me advice!"
My MIL does ask me sometimes what I do (I'm still preop but am down 40+ lbs) but she really doesn't want to hear the rice, pasta and potatoes she eats every day are not great for dieting. She also consistently chooses low fat over low carb and I feel really bad for her. She believes she's eating healthy, and is following what she's been taught all her life, and right now she can't exercise much...she could do more than she is but to each her own. But at the same time she keeps complaining about how none of her clothes fit, how she wish she could lose weight, but also how change is hard for her. She is a dear sweet lady but like many people who will be asking you, she has to want to change something, which many don't.
It's frustrating, eh? A person can ask for so much advice, ignore it all, and keep complaining. :P

I think that the eating plan that we follow still applies to those that haven't been sleeved and want to lose a smaller amount. Low carb, high protein and healthy fat is the way to go. Perhaps their portions are bigger but the concept is still the same. I have a friend that is losing with me. We eat the same foods. She just sticks with a higher calorie allowance and doesn't need to supplement with shakes to get the protein up. She actually lost more than I did in our 6 week challenge because I was stalled most of Oct.
I don't think you are a hypocrite at all if you offer the advice and nutritional education that you have learned. Your advice to "focus on protein, healthy fats, and skip the carbs" is spot on!
