Straws...
The surgery will probably make it so gulping is uncomfortable initially, but straws will be fine.

Have they not axed that one yet?! I had RNY but it actually helped me get less air and since it takes awhile to get used to not gulping post WLS it was an easier way to regulate how much went in my mouth. So I used one from the beginning (my Dr, not in this country, laughed at the no straw rule and said if you like it use it, if you don't don't)
My program nixed the straws too, but I saw that many VSG folks here had good luck with them. Because I have a long commute, I prefer to drink from a water bottle with a straw rather than trying to raise a huge bottle to my lips!
So I gave it a try at about 3-4 months post-op. I had some minor discomfort then, and thought I'd back off for a few weeks before I try again.
When I tried it again, I had no discomfort at all. So I have continued to use straws since that time.
Common sense tells me, "If it hurts, don't do it. If it doesn't hurt, go ahead!" This seems to be working for me!
