Starting Liquid Diet today
Today I start my 8 day pre-surgery liquid diet. I am a procrastinator so I had to go shopping this morning for SF drinks, popsicles, etc... I don't use aspartame, so I have been having trouble finding good SF options. I went to the dollar store and found flavored syrups that were SF! They were not marked SF but the ingredients have no sugar - only sucralose and Ace-K. I bought 3 - Caramel, Vanilla and Hazelnut. Only a dollar! I'll be using them in conjunction with instant decaf coffee, milk and my protein powder to make iced or hot coffees. I also found Edy's Outshine No Sugar Added pops (Splenda) and SF italian ices. I will have to make my own SF jello, since all of them have aspartame in them. I will be trying the recipe with Kool-Aid and I will also be trying to use the Crystal Light to see if that makes a tasty jello. I plan on using Stevia in the Raw for any sweetener that is needed.
I am feeling good starting liquids. I'm feeling ready for this challenge - it is only 2 weeks of liquids total (8 days before surgery, 6 days after) so that is a small period of time to have to sacrifice for the long term benefits. I am trying to keep this in mind, especially when I am at the store and wanting to grab something yummy. I know I can do this; I have struggled through worse!

Do you get to have protein shakes on this liquid diet? They help A LOT!! Good job getting pumped up... carry that as long as you can. The liquid diet gets touch in the middle... don't give up! You can do it! It is so worth all of the liquid diet penance when you get through the surgery! Good luck and stick with it!!!
Thanks! Yes, I can have protein shakes - but only Boost, Slim-Fast, Designer Whey, SF Carnation Breakfasts, or Ensure. I like the Carnation, so that is what I stocked up on. I'm hoping to augment the flavors so I don't get bored.
I like gadgets, so I bought myself a Nutri-Ninja to make iced drinks. I'm hoping this will expand my options; I can make Crystal Light slushies or iced protein coffees. It should keep me excited just long enough to make it through! :)

Hey Angelina,
My surgery is scheduled for the 15th. My doctor has you do 1 week 2 protein drinks and one "sensible" meal. I tried really hard with sensible meal but if i was good at that I probably wouldn't be here. Lol. Week before surgery all liquids. Can have 3 shakes a day. I am super picky. I found that The Vitamin Shoppe, not sure if you have one where you are but maybe something similar has a lot of single ready made drinks so i bought a variety to see what I like. So far I really like the ready to drink Premier shakes and I mix them in my Magic Bullet with ice and sometimes a few little piece of frozen fruit to jazz them up. I haven't found any powders that i really care for. The Nectar one is ok and there is a Tangerine Cytosport too. I have found also that i have put instead of Crystal Light, drops of those Mio or whatever brand into some of the drinks to kill some of their funky tastes. Hopefully some of this will help you. I am just trying to see what I like before so I am not stuck after surgery going through this. Best of luck!
Surgery Date 12/15/14. HW 266 CW 252. SW ?

Good luck. I am on a liquid diet as well. I have only been on it a few days but holy headache batman. I have also had a few bouts of nausea and cold sweats too. My surgery is the 17th. hopefully the next week goes fast.. Good luck!!!!
Yes, I have a slight headache. I'm expecting it to get worse before it gets better. I was able to get in 95 oz of liquids today so I'm trying to stay hydrated to combat the headaches. Good Luck to you!
