Was Anyone Else Thinking About RNY Or Band?

This is a pretty big generalization. I am four years out from RNY and within 5 pounds of my lowest weight. My severe GERD is COMPLETELY resolved. Do you have any studies that you can post to prove your "8 out of 10 RNY patients have regained 80% or more" comment? I would be interested in reading that study.
No, if you read my post those stats are from my support group. People I met in 2008 and have followed their journey as they have followed mine. We started with 16 people 10 were RNY and 4 have gotten bands over bypass to help lose the regain. Just my experience. My bff started at my weight - lost faster and more than me in a shorter time frame, 7 years later she weighs more than she did pre op. Are all your RNY friends and support group members in maintenance like you?
Lost 271lbs with my LapBand in 22 months! My Band malfunctioned and I gained almost 42lbs and then revised to the Sleeve 9/24/12! I lost another 140 lbs with my Sleeve! Loved the LapBand and Lovin' The Sleeve!

I actually know quite a few people who have had RNY and maintained their weight loss to within 10 pounds. Many are several years out. Some of them are more that ten years out. I feel bad for those in your group. They obviously did not get the education on the RNY lifestyle that they needed to succeed. It doesn't matter what WLS you've had, if you want to eat around the surgery, you'll find a way. I was told before my surgery that only 30% of RNY patients dump and that I would have to get my head in the game to maintain my weight loss. If I relied on dumping I would fail.
I've been on these boards since 2007 and can assure you that there have been many VSG patients that come back complaining of huge regain. It's not about which surgery you choose. It's about whether you choose to follow the rules.
I agree. That's how I was able to lose 271 lbs with the Lapband. The tool that most WLS patients readily bash. I followed the rules my surgeon gave me. The support group is a community support group - it was not only one surgeon. Did they all rely in dumping? Perhaps. Several claimed they were never told that the dumping would not be a lifetime part of their surgery.

Absolutely but in my WLS support group - 8 out of 10 RNY patiebts have regained 80% or more. Sleevers have a little regain but it's not significant - I work with patients who desire revisions so I know there are ways to eat around any WLS. The reason RNY had higher regain stats is the absorption of the bad stuff returns and if the patient hasn't learned how to eat properly and relied on dumping to lose weight, they begin to gain around the 2 year mark.
This is actually just the opposite in my support group. None of the VSGers reached goal, and all but one had significant regain. None of the RNY have had much regain at all. And there are two VSGers that had reflux so bad they converted to RNY. Both never had reflux after the revision, and both lost the rest of their weight.
Is any of this typical? Of course not. It's what happens when you look too closely at a small group. And none of it should really be used to help someone decide which surgery is best for them.

I know many very successful LapBanders too (myself included)
i think the OP is smart enough to read the words I wrote, see its from my personal experience with my support group and make her decision based on many things not just my words. Give her some credit, she seems quite intelligent.

Sadly the plural of anecdote is not data. I.e., the experience of one support group can't be extrapolated into the experience of everyone.

Give the girl some credit! She's not stupid. You guys act like she reads what I wrote and will base her decision upon that. I said clearly it was from my support group.

I thought I was acting as though a person made a statement that is incorrect and should be clarified? You said "One thing besides the malabsorption issues with RNY is regain." which, to me, reads as though RNY is the only surgery that has an "issue" of regain. When, in reality, regain is always possible and that's important for all of us to know - whether we're pre-op or 4 years post-op.
Which really has nothing to do with not giving the OP credit. I'm sure the OP is a lovely person who is capable of making her own choices and won't just take the words of internet randoms as fact.

And I quote myself, "regain, I know many with RNY who have regained." True statement. I don't know anyone with Vsg with significant regain, only RNY. I clearly said, "I know." Not "everyone who had RNY regains." Even though from the group I attend, one could easy assume that.
I think this dead horse had been beaten. Thank you for clarifying my statement. Regain is possible with all WLS.
