Personal trainer food order arrived- initial thoughts
Got it! I ordered the Rev package from personaltrainerfood.com using a Groupon at a cost of $200. My purpose was to manage blood sugar levels with easy to grab and microwave food to help me through the remainder of my recovery and particularly during the first few weeks back to work.
Iniatial thoughts- totally worth the money at this price point. I would never pay full price, but at $200 I would order it again in a heartbeat. The package has 28 protein choices, and 5 veggie choices per day for each of the 28 days. It is a boatload of veggies to be sure!! But they look fantastic, and the first bag I cooked up was perfect. They come in a steamer bag, so literally just toss it in. They were a perfect crunch/cooked texture. My butter sauce is still frozen, but online reviews say it is fantastic. Just with some salt it was perfect.
The protein choices I am not so sure about. In many cases the serving size seemed small for a normie stomach size. No issues with our tiny tummies. Some were far more generous in portion size. The "sticks" for example would be a minimum of 2 meals for us. I will add to this thread later today after I eat my first protein to comment on taste.
In the future, I might not buy this again at the price point- but only because it took so much freezer space. I had to thaw a couple of items for the family to get everything to fit. Additionally, if you purchase the boxed Green Giant frozen veggies when they are on sale for $1, you can easily replicate the veggie part of this packagealthough perhaps this stuff is a little lighter on the calories since you can control how much (if any) butter sauce is used.
The protein choices just wasn't impressive enough to warrent going through this company. Instead, I bet you could go to Costco and purchase the prepackaged and individually portioned choices there for comparable cost. The only down side is that these protein choices come precooked and preseasoned- so easy! I don't normally buy that type of stuff from Costco so not sure how much is available. Trader Joe has good choices though. But cost wisie? If you find 1 serving of protein at $2 each, that is $54. Add in 140 boxes of $1 Green Giant veggies and that is the total package I recieved today- plus the hassle of going out to track all of that down. The proitein you buy probably can't cook in 2 minutes either so the convenience factor heavily favors this package of pre-done food. So, totally worth my first purchase for sure.
If I find the promo price again after I go through this, at least at this time I would likely purchase it again. The Groupon is still available I believe if you are interested. But if you don't do veggies- then avoid it!!

Hi HappyTeacher,
I saw your blog post and here is what I shared....
Been there done that! Also with your food plan be sure and get your protein in. Go back to the basics that worked before. For example, when I started logging all my foods that really helped. I also started logging how I felt or what was going on when I wanted to eat. I have a husband that has health issues so my stress never leaves me. I also stopped working out. I forgot how just a walk helped me with my stress eating. Good luck to you and we look forward to your updates on how you are doing.

Tried the first protein option. It was the rotissierre chicken. No way on the planet could a sleeve patient put w whole one down with 1 bag of the veggies... and I have a really large sleeve on a super tall chic. Hubby ended up eating about 1/3 of the chicken and half the veggies. We both agree the veggies are the bomb. He liked the chicken, whereas I only thought it was just paletable enough to eat. That meets my criteria though- as I am looking for convenient nutrtion above all else at the moment.
On a happy note- I can already feel myself detoxing from the sugar and it feels fantastic!!

If I liked cooking I would never buy this- I bought it solely because I am super lazy and want this easy! It does get high marks for not being carb heavy though! And so far today it has been super easy to keep my calories low. I did add a Venti skinny latte (Starbucks) and 1 serving of Trader Ming Kung Pao chicken (just at the chicken) and even with that I am sitting at 600 calories today. I have 2 more bags of veggies to go and that will satiete me for sure.

After your first post, I checked the site out. For the price you paid, it seemed like a good deal. I'm hoping to get a "seal-a-meal" machine next month because when foods are on sale, I like to stock up. My plan is to spend a day cooking and then freezing individual portions. SO and I eat differently -- he'll have a bowl of cereal, then a bowl (or two) of ice cream (seriously). I usually make myself a piece of steak or chicken, or some tuna. I'd like to cook up a crock-pot or two of some protein with a gravy because right now, when I cook a chicken drumstick or thigh, it's dry. Years ago I bought one of those freezer food plans - you got a freezer and loads of vacuum-packed meats. The meats really stayed fresh because it was vacuum sealed.
I am struggling lately, and having good meals prepared and frozen will help me a lot.
Sounds like your plan is going to work well for you.
My husband has been pining for a seal a meal for some time now. Like you, in the past I have spent 1 day dedicated to cooking and then freezing the results. Previously though, frozen sized portions for the family. I think when I am done with this order it is entirely possible that I will switch to this. I could could 6 different protein meals in a few short hours and then freeze the right sized portions. This probably won't happen until summer though after I am done with school :)
