Hi Gwen,

My surgeon said once I healed, I could have coffee again. I love my morning cup of Joe. Listen to your Dr. though. You could have headaches.

Good luck,

Robin

I was a die hard coffee person before surgery so I started weaning off of it per my nutritionist's recommendation. I've tried drinking it off and on since but I honestly don't even want it. It upsets my stomach now so you might not even want it after you get the caffeine out of your system.

I added coffee back in a couple months after surgery. I use my daily cup to add my protein powder to. It helps up my protein and give me a kick in the morning.

That sounds a lot like my pre-surgery coffee experience. I am six weeks out and I can't stand the taste of coffee. I'm hoping it will return, but coffee is a moot point for me for now. LOL !

I started being an occasional drinker about 3 yrs ago when it occurred to me that I looked like a child ordering chocolate milk w/breakfast..

I started drinking it daily this winter at first to warm up then I realized it kept me, not so much full, but satiated for about 2/3 hrs after having it...

my Dr has no issue with it at all.

he said if you didn't have a problem with it before surgery he said there's no reason you'd have it after.

this is also his stance on Advil/Aleve...

IMO....it is more of the NUTS opinion than the physicians.  If you are really concerned re: dehydration, increase your water intake post consuming coffee.  VSG folks really do empty liquids quickly.  Water keeps your sleeve clean LOL!  With that said, I used half-caf starting at two months post-op.  No problems

I stopped caffeinated coffee for 2 weeks prior to surgery (drank decaf) and for 2 weeks post-op.  Have been drinking coffee regularly since then.  I usually have 2 big cups per day with cream and sugar/splenda.  It was never restricted for me nor have I had issues with caffeine.  I drink tea the rest of the time, and, the first cup of coffee of the day is the only time I use real sugar. The dieticians at my program don't believe in the dehydration theory of caffeine so as long as I'm mindful of how my stomach feels and I can drink regular caffeinated beverages at my discretion.
