falafel waffle
I am a falafel fan, but dang those fried calories are tough. I just saw a recipe on The Chew today for a falafel waffle. It uses a waffle iron instead of frying. Brilliant! Anyway, here is a recipe that looks a little better than the Chew version IMHO, This receipe though packs over 600 cals a waffle. If you sub out the oil for applesauce it drops down 375 a waffle. I would think a quarter of a waffle with a poached egg on top would be more than enough for a meal for us, so that would be about 160 cals. I would likely add a little yogurt dressing (thinned out a bit perhaps), but overall pretty darn tasty. There would be 16 carb and 12 protein . Not a weight loss phase staple for sure, but if you are in maintainance and jonesing for falafel it might be worth a look! I am in a liquid phase at the moment, but I think I am going to make and freeze these for when I can have them.
Edited to add: Here is a great baked recipe that gives you a sandwich (half pita) under 200 cals. Sub out the Pita for a Turano low carb wrap, and even lower. Better yet, just wrap in lettuce! Here is a low cal tzatziki sauce too.
