Chewable v. regular vitamins?

Hi all! Hope everyone had a healthy Thanksgiving and didn't eat too much! Quick question: I know I need to get the chewable versions of the multivitamins and supplements at first, but when do people start transitioning back to the regular pills that you swallow?

My surgeon didn't have a preference. The only chewable I used in the beginning was Calcium, because it was just easier for me to do 3x per day. My Multivitamin was in pill form(and still is), the B12 is sublingual. I use Barimelts for Calcium now. I have other medications that I swallowed without difficulty post op. I think it just depends on your tolerance. Maybe others will have a better answer:-)

I got a sample packet of bariatric advantage from my surgeon's NUT and tried those out. I ended up sticking with them. I got a 3-month supply and transitioned once I ran out.

That said, there's no reason why you can't swallow pills right away, especially small ones, but some people have trouble with them and some surgeons recommend chewable as a result.

I used regular pills from the start. I'm on other meds for bipolar, and those don't come in chewable form! I did get a pill splitter to break up the large multivitamins, and that helped a lot.

I kept taking chewable multis for about a year, even though I'm pretty sure we were told we could switch over after the first month or so. But I liked my chewables (they reminded me of Sweet Tarts). But I finally switched over when I realized the regular pills were a lot cheaper than chewables!

My surgeon had me taking 12 bariatric vitamins daily starting on day 4 when I was discharged. They were giant capsules. I just took them slow, one at a time, and got them down just fine. Chewables will probably be easier if you can stomach them, but it's nice to know you have a fallback option.
