id honestly like to say its gotten better. But the last couple days the pain has come back with a vengeance >< sometime earlier thi week i think Monday the mrs made stuffed bell pepper for her and my mom. i probably wasn't very smart and took a small bite of the ground beef in the tomato sauce and a bite of the peppers. little while later my insides were not feeling great then about 4-5 hrs later i got pretty nauseous so i had a 2 small pieces of Canned pears in water. sadly the nausea got worse and i ended up dry heaving for a while then puked out a bit of the pear and some water/bile other then being nauseous things were better by the time i woke up.
Sadly that wasn't my only mistake this week >< mum brought some pizza home for her and the Mrs. and i like a dummy pulled 2 bites of cheese off the end of the pizza and ate it. i didn't really feel bad or anything for a few ours. then i don't know if i moved wrong or it was caused by the cheese but my stomach hurt pain wise, and sadly it has not gone away.
I have been taking my dogs for a walk with the mrs when she comes home from work . to make sure i get my exercise in. and yesterday my Black lab started pulling alot cuz a bird flew by usually i walk our little collie mix instead of the lab and i dunno if its cuz i was using my left had at the time she pulled or what but the rest of the walk my insides *mainly my stomach and larger incision site. hurt the rest of the walk and the pain has been pretty constant since. if i sit at my computer and lean to my left it feels like im a split my side open. and getting out of bed this morning to find my glasses cuz they fell of my stand hurt ALOT. I kn ow i should probably be dong more stretches to try and stretch it just a little but man i have not had the energy and don't want the pain to get worse if i mess it up. i did get a shake down yesterday and a bit of yogurt with protine the night before. I might have to put some apple sauce or something in the yogurt cuz plain Greek yogurt with some prontie tasted like sour cream and that wasn't pleasant at all.
Lastly my mouth has been SOOOOOOO dry almost constantly for the last 3 weeks. i drink and drink and drink and it just is always dry. and its worse when i wake up. i sleep with a CPAP and my enter mouth tongue lips cheeks throat ect all are SOOOOO completely dry that its like sand paper whenever they touch. Not sure what to do there.
Sorry to rant and complain ive been up about 45 min and i am a bit rambly. Debating on calling my surgeons office. and see what they have to say wondering if it might lessen a bit now that im awake. i don't know. I understand that there is about a 98% chance i wont speak to the surgeon and will just instead be talking to a receptionist or PA.
Still not getting much in my body on the side of my nutrients cuz im still not eating much. But i am taking my vitamins alot better.
Kinda bummed to be spending my birthday if the pain persists tomorrow in pain not wanting to move.
Thank you everyone for your comments! i appreciate them.
Hi, I'm glad you're asking this very important question. I had VSG 5 1/2 years ago and my acid reflux is awful. It's a daily battle to manage. I didn't have acid reflux before the surgery and was told I "might" experience some after the surgery. That was the understatement of the year. Of course there are drugs available to manage it (PPI's such as Nexium), which my doctor puts all his patients on post op. What I didn't know is the long term affects of using these drugs. It's a serious situation and I hope you are able to take the information you've been offered and perhaps make a different plan. Best of luck to you on this journey.

Sorry, it has taken me a bit to get back to my post, I was on vacation. I am aware that my weight is too low. I am 5'2 for those that have asked. The PA at my surgeon's office didn't seem the least bit concerned, which I thought was odd since last year at my annual follow up I weighed 112 and a different PA told me not to lose any more.
I had hand surgery, moved, and renovated a house all at the same time which took my weight from 106 to 89 in about 2 months. The stress was just so much. I am working with my PCP and they are very concerned about my weight, so I am trying my hardest to get it back where it needs to be.
I have been eating the highest calorie things I can think of and as of this morning my weight was 93.4, so I am headed in the right direction.
My PCP wants to see me at no lower than 115, but preferably 125. Personally, I am not comfortable that high and I will be happy once I get back to 110, which I am certainly on my way.
Thank you all so much for your honest input, I really appreciate it :)

I was told to use a healing ointment to keep them moist initially until healed. Now I just put Lubriderm red bottle (advanced I think). He told me after 6 months I could stop if I wanted. I'm just in the habit now of lubing up after a shower, so I'm keeping it going. It's also the only time I inspect how things look.

Congratulations on your progress! That is awesome! You make a great point. It is different from just dieting and I'm sure seeing such good progress is a big motivator to keep on keeping on!
How are things going for you now? Are you feeling any better?
Congratulations! Very exciting!
I was very afraid I was going to fail too. There was a voice in my head saying "you're going to fail at this just like you failed at all those other diets". But I discovered that this isn't "just another diet". The surgery made it so that my body co-operates with me in my attempts to lose weight, instead of fighting me over every pound. I still have to do my part by following a good diet, but that isn't so difficult when you see mostly regular progress. I surpassed my surgeon's expectations and am still losing weight at 1 1/2 years post-op.
I wish that lady every success... but statistically, the chances of her maintaining that weight loss in the long run are slim. This is confirmed by many scientific studies. There are also people who have won the lottery, but alas, I wouldn't count on being one of them.
I'm definitely not trying to talk you into having surgery; I just wouldn't want you to decide against it for the wrong reasons! I suspect most people go into surgery feeling a little guilty that they "didn't try hard enough" ****rtainly did). It sounds to me like you tried many times to lose the weight.
In the interest of balance, here are a few good reasons why someone should not have surgery (at least not at this time):
- The surgery is pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get to a healthy weight, so you need to be ready to commit to it. You don't want to waste the opportunity. There are revision surgeries, but typically weight loss from them is very small. Only you know if you're emotionally ready for it at this time in your life. A counsellor can help you evaluate this.
- You have an untreated food addiction or eating disorder.
- You're in an unsupportive environment (e.g. family members will try to sabotage you).
- You're going through stressful times (e.g. divorce, grief, a miserable job). Probably better to wait until you're stronger.
Obviously that list is not exhaustive, but I think it gives you an idea of the kind of things that I would consider. Whatever you decide, you probably won't be 100% sure of your decision. I was thinking about cancelling up to the morning of surgery!
So I finally have a surgery date. I've been researching this surgery for about 5 years but was to broke/convinced myself that I just needed to try a different diet. I'm excited but now that it's been set I'm feeling pretty nervous. I'm afraid I'm going to fail at it.
I find it very easy to eat out, but I'm 3 years out. In the first year I tended to rely on appetizers of protein only. Usually easy to find a place with a skewer of some protein or a shrimp ****tail. I also found many places have chili, so I became a chili snob in my first year. Funny, I just went to a big burger restaurant in Chicago the night I was going to a Hawks game. I was going to get a crazy named burger and then I saw the bowl of chili on the menu. The waiter said it was his favorite item on the menu. Bam! Was delicious.
I went out with my wife Saturday and I was looking for a steak. The steak on the menu was $25 and came with a ton of other stuff. I ordered the steak sandwich for $15 and it was absolutely perfect (tossed the bread). Came with a salad and ate 6 fries (but could have subt a baked potato). Lots of great options from the sandwich world and just toss the bread.
