any tips on controlling hunger at night???
I am a little over 2.5 years out from RNY surgery, which went perfectly, no complications, I ate by the book for a long time. But little by little, I started testing the waters and grazing, and I have gone from a low of 143 (size 6) back up to 160 (size 10) I know I have noone to blame but myself, I work in a place that there is candy, pastries and all kinds of crap to snack on around every corner, and as a food addict, it is just too much for me. I work pm shift so every night around 7 I start getting hungry and I am able to keep out of the jun****il about that time, then it's all over. I eat nuts, candies (small amounts because I still dump) chips and whatever...I don't keep bad food in the house, but I always break down and eat something I shouldnt late at night. If I don't eat before bed I am hungry and it will bug me until I get up and eat something
I also used to work out alot and I have been busy with school and work so that has dropped off too, which I am going to start back up going to the gym at least 4 days a week no matter how little time I have, that has been a huge factor in why I am gaining too. My question (finally!) is, what do other people do that helps them not snack particularly at night, I try to ignore the cravings but I really feel hungry and like I need to eat. I went and saw the nutritionist again, she is the one at my clinic that sees the post rny pts, but I didnt think she was giving any really helpful advice, just everything I already know without any suggestions of how I can try to break the pm eating habits. I know it's all up to me, but if anyone has any really helpful tips on what helps them, I would really appreciate it! I wanna be back in my size 6's, it was so great!

I am a big fan of behavior modification, so you might want to look into that. There are a couple of good books I like, The Beck Diet Solution and Winning After Losing. The first on isn't really written for wls but does have a good plan, and the second is written by a wls patient. I like these because, as you say, we know what we should do already but that doesn't help us do it.
Good luck,
Sally
Hi,
This is hard b/c of your work shift, but what about drinking a "heavy" protein shake at that time. I make a real thick one that fills me way up so i can't think about eating for a long while after. or maybe if you have to snack, can you munch on raw veggies?
This works for me, but I'm at home... I found changing my evening routine works to help me stop the night munchies. I stay out of the kitchen for the night, do laundry, read or. I go upstairs and clean and keep busy until it's time go to bed, some nights I even went to bed at 8pm b/c i wanted to snack so bad. lol! Or I go the gym later, and when I get home it's in my head that if I eat now, the workout was for nothing.
I do that for a week and then find that it seems to break the "habit" of wanting to snack at night. I have to redo this every few months, but once I break the habit it gets easier.
All the best to you. I think now is a GREAT time to do something about your recent gain, it's still manageable and you can get back to your 6's with just a little effort!!
take care,
Don't Sweat the Small Stuff.....(it's ALL small stuff!)

I would plan a snack with protien to have at that time. Just figure it in your daily totals so you stay within your usual range on calories ect.
