I am so sorry you are struggling right now with keep that ship righted. I am not as far out as you so I dont know how to help you with this. I know you have eaten well as I have seen on the accountability post. What happened? I know a lot of people think the pouch thing works as far as resetting their pouch and many who dont think it works. It's something you will need to decide to do. Just do what you are doing. I've been thinking about starting a late night snacking thread myself as thats seems to be when I am eating the most myself. Take a deep breath, right that ship and we will support you as best we can to keep her sailing forward. You can do this.. 5 years shows you know how.

Take care my friend..

I'm not as far out as you either but I don't stress over the carbs as much. I do as my surgeon's nut told me...Do the high protein stuff first, veggies second and THEN any carbs. I believe that there are carbs in each and every thing you eat and you can't stay away from them...BUT you can avoid the bad carbs like the white pasta, white bread and white rice...Those are sinister things that I do stay away from. They fill me up too fast and, to me, pouch space is at a premium. 1 cup or two cups...Doesn't matter. White = filler. But, we all do what we have to do to make the tool work the way it should on an individual basis. I've found that I need to warm up my pouch in order to get it going in the mornings so I have hot cereal. That's almost all carbs but it's warm. Now if I stick to Malto Meal, that has higher protein or I can add some protein powder to my cereal in the mornings and that will give me a warm pouch AND the protein I need. It's what works for me...I also drink a big glass of something (or cup of tea) when I think I want a snack or I think I'm hungry. That way I get my water in and maybe it's liquids my pouch wanted and not a snack. If I do snack at night it's a homemade protein bar or a sf cookie, or a cup of tea or sf cocoa...Not a half dozen sf cookies, just one. Or a piece of sf candy. A serving size is three pieces but I think 1 works just as good for the head cravings. But then, I'm only 16 months out. People further out can do more and usually do.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

While I find it perfectly sensible and necessary to be accountable to others as well as yourself, if you find yourself obsessing over it, you may need to scale it back a bit.  If your carbs are coming from fresh fruits, veggies, and/or whole grains, don't worry about it.  I, too, can eat over a cup of certain foods, but I doubt many of us could eat 4oz of DENSE protein (steak, chicken/turkey breast, pork loin, etc.) and 1/2c. of much else!  I've had to ease up on many deli and canned meats for that reason alone...the meats I make myself go much further in keeping me fuller, longer than the others.  My NUT says good carbs are necessary, and suggests 2 or 3 tablespoons of whole grains a couple times a day.  I snack at night too, but often it's out of boredom, especially if I'm watching TV, so I try not to keep too many good "snack foods" on hand to begin with.  As far as the pouch test, I think you've got a great handle as it is, you're just a bit anxious at the moment...keep up the good work and give yourself a break!

Anita, try not to panic. It sounds like you are following the rules, protien first ect. and eating some good carbs like vegetables or a little whole grains is ok. Has your weight been stable, if so really try and relax. As for the evening snacking, I too find the evenings a time that I want something. During the day I am better occupied and have to remember to eat. I know I will want something in the evening so I save a daily allotment of food which I could of had during the day and have it during the evening. It does the trick for me. I quite often have a salad with a few cups of lettuce, some grape tomatos, lean turkey breast and some cheese with a small amount of lf dressing, also I might have a homemade sf, lf muffin. I also try and keep my hands  busy, using my lap top, reading, or crochetting while I watch tv so distract myself and make it physically difficult to eat. Take care Sher

Hi!  I am 2 years post op and have lost 145 lbs and am at goal.  My life is transformed from this surgery and I am so happy.  I often snack too, but usually on fruit or something low sugar, low carb, high protein - I save about 200 calories for the evening so I can satisfy a craving for something "sweet" - a low fat, low sugar muffin, a WW ice cream or something like that.  It seems to have worked for me.  I have not gained anything and in fact, continue to lose a pound now and then.  I exercise religiously and I think that keeps everything in balance and allows me to have that evening snack.  I do watch my portions during the day and weigh everything and I continue to drink at least one protein drink per day.  Have you gained any weight back?  If not, don't worry so much.  I probably consume about 1200 calories a day now. Hope this helps and good luck.  Linda
