Today I reached my goal weight of 153 pounds. I'm excited but also scared. I've never reached my goal weight before. In the past when I got close I would start reverting back to old habits. (self sabotage). I've never maintained before. Any suggestions to maintain my weight loss. I know I should keep doing the things that got me to goal but any help would be appreciated.

Keep doing what you did to get there. It's ok to drop 10-15 # below goal, because there is the bounceback as your body settles in to what it wants. And you don't want to settle potentially 10-15# more than now, right?

I thought 120-125 would be nice, but I leet my body just float and it stopped at 104, then I shot up to 118, and finally settled at 112. I like that one. And that's where I stay (give or take a 5# sway) UNLESS I get involved with sugar, then all bets are off and up it goes. Pull the sugar back out, back to 112 it goes.

Currently not very hungry, so am around 110, but that is not where I'd expect to stay.

Congradulations on reaching your goal Beth.  My suggestion to you is to weight at least one time every day that way you will stay on top with what is going on with your body.   You don't want to let your weight creep back up like lots of people accidently let happen without realizing it till they are up 20 or more lbs.   Keep track of how you eat and try not to gain more than 5 lbs without getting it off quickly.   You don't want to return to your old ways before WLS.   GOod luck !!! Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Hey....

I am just abit ahead of you...I reached goal a few months back and let me tell ya... maintaining is work!   I havent had any bad habits creep back because Im pretty dilligent abou****ching and tracking and weighing.  I am however still losing so thats work too.  But after some great advice here on the grad's board I realized my body will bottom out where it does and not to worry.

This is the first time in my life I have had to maintain..... I either went up or down... its all new!

Good luck and track and weigh........... youll do fine!

I'm (so far, knocks wood) maintaining with constant vigilance as was mentioned above. I weigh every day in the morning and plan my intake accordingly. I also log all my food on a site like fitday (actually, I use fit day but you could do sparkpeople or any of the daily counter places) and I log in here and post my doings with Carla on the Accountability message. I'm finding that with alittle help and guidance I have maintained (so far) with the correct balance of carbs, calories, protein and activity... This is the first Thanksgiving that I've managed to stay at exactly the SAME weight and I'm hoping the trend holds until after Christmas. This is a really tough time for us who are addicted to food...I'm making any of my own cheater foods (pies, no sugar added or baked with splenda and low or no fat options) and measuring religiously. There are alot of options out there for us, we just have to find them and work them like our tool. I just keep reminding myself that stuffing is another work for filler and stay away from it. I fill my pouch with turkey and then veggies, a tiny bit of potatoes and maybe a smidgen of gravy and then over calculate it (I know I had less than a 1/4 cup but that's what I calculate).  And the above has just been my opinion and my findings. You'll have to find what works for you.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Before Surgery: 214
Highest Weight: 240
Now: 125.6
Goal: 130

Thank you all for your words of wisdom. I'm sure I'll be back here daily checking in.You are great examples of changing your habits and living a healthy lifestyle. Thanks for being positive role models. As I start I new day I have maintained for 1 day and now I begin a new chapter in my wls journey.

Tracy, Thanks for the support and encouragement. I was reading your profile and I was curious about what made you get a tattoo. I don't have any and recently I've been thinking about getting one. Did it Hurt? How long did it take to have done? Thanks Beth C.

I've always wanted one, but was too afraid to do it. Once I was ready I did it right away and I'm so happy with it!!! It did hurt some, but not too bad. Mine took about an hour to do. Just be sure you pick what you really want b/c you'll have it forever!!!!
