Lessons from my 5DPT
These may be helpful to those who are currently doing the test and those who are contemplating doing it...
1. Use Benefiber in your shakes and in your foods throughout the week. With not eating fruits and veggies you may not be getting enough fiber to keep things moving. I really noticed this around day three.
2. My snacking seems to have disappeared. Or more accurately my wanting to snack has disappeared. I am still amazed that I no longer think about snacks and what I'll have as my next snack between meals. If I do feel hungry then I'll grab some cottage cheese, a 4oz yogurt or sharp cheese. It's no longer things that the carb monster once wanted me to have for snacks.
3. It really isn't that big of a deal to my husband if we eat two separate meals. We're still eating together as a family and that's what counts for all of us.
4. When I had to explain to people that I was on a special diet I chose to tell them that I was on a restricted diet for the week. That sounds more like a medical necessity than to say that I'm just not eating whatever was there for the taking. I am not one who feels they need to explain their food choices to anyone.
5. Losing 6 pounds was a wonderful side effect of the pouch test. It was also an excellent motivator for me to continue to eat well. I am trying to eat per days 4 & 5 with the addition of fruits and veggies because I really missed them.
6. I am amazed that my wonderful tool wasn't ruined for eternity. After what I went through to have to continue to feel that way would have been torture.
7. This board was a big help throughout the 5 days. I'm so glad I found you guys.
Congrats Diane on getting back on track. It's a good feeling to be in control. Continued success with your tool. OH is my biggest support team. Since no one other than my husband and daughter knew I had this procedure where would I turn without my friends here. If I have a question I come here, if I have something I am excited about I am here...not many would understand how important a 5 day pouch test or my blood results were to me...so I celebrate here as well.
You have some good ideas here! The benefiber was a cool idea! I had the same results you did...I really loved how it forced me to look at my food with my pouch and not my eyes and my mouth. Seriously! I'm gonna see how my hubby feels eating left overs more often while I eat tofu (he hates tofu) And I love it! It'll be like at a restaurant where we order different foods! No big deal! You are so right!
I honestly had no idea that carbs could make you crave and hunger like they do...I really didn't know! I never got so out off track in four years! Now I see why it's so easy to gain a few pounds and not realize til it's out of control.
I see your number going d...Good for you!! Keep it going, girl!

Congratulations on the 6# loss and the boost to your motivation. Thank you for sharing these things, I think they are very helpful! I had gotte the fiber tip from MelissaF and was sure glad that I used extra fiber products.
The 5DPT is really an interesting tool and I'm so glad it is out there. My first experience with it was very interesting and I'll definitely be doing it again in the future.
Molly

Very good ideas to share with others......I love the pouch test also, just knowing that it's doable and the control after really amazes me.....I know down the road I'll be looking to do it again.
Congrats on the 6# loss.
