Advice w/t regards to very negative opions

I would do this again in a heartbeat.  The day after my surgery I had a blood clot in each lung and the left one was large.  Even with that complication I would do it again.  My mother hates that I say it, but it's true.  It changed my life for the better in so many ways.

If your doctor isn't supportive I would look for a new family doctor that is supportive.  As far as complications your surgeon would handle them, not your family doctor.  I really am surprised that he went on a tirade and didn't give you a chance to speak. He sounds terribly rude.  If it were me I'd find a new doctor.

I am currently pregant and will need a revision after I deliver.  As of now I am planning on having it done about a year from now.  Precautions will be taken to avoid having blood clots again.

Best wishes in your journey.

Pre-Revision: 228 - I had my second baby Feb. 18, 2009
Current Weight: 186 I had a revision via lap to my RnY on August 18, 2009

You know what.  I hear people say that about their PCPs. In the old days, a town had one doctor.  Everyone had to go to him (I picture Doc Baker on Little House!). Nowadays there are ten docs in one practice.  I would find myself a new doctor.

Thanks for responding.

I am just very uncertain at the present time.
I've been reading a lot of comments saying to find another doctor.

I guess what bugs me the most is that I had high regards for my current PCP. He
has helped greatly in dealing with other health issues I've had. I guess I need to sit down with a doctor who does agree with surgery for some patient and clearly understand why, and how many people he has delt with in this situation.

I got the impression from talking with Surgeons and RNY patients at DUKE University medical center, that once they complete the surgery, the relationship between the surgeons and patients seems distant.

I guess I really need the assurance that if complications arise in 6 months, 1 yr etc I will have a place to go and not have to have doctors say ...." this wouldn't have happened if........" so I can't or won't help you.

I'm someone who has experience complications in a surgery before and this really makes me very cautious. I know we can't plan for everything, but I'm the type of person to try and have all the bases covered.

Maybe you can shed some light on these feeling.

Thanks for listening to me ramble
