Help...I've fallen and I can't get up!

I had my WLS on February 14, 2004...In that first year I lost 85 lbs...but never made it to goal!  I have in the past two years gained 50 lbs of that 85 lost back!  I feel like such a failure, although I do realize that other cir****tances added to my slipping back into my old eating habits(the death of my niece, mother, uncle and a miscarriage)!

I know that I didn't go through all that pain and suffering with the surgery to just get back to the old unhealthy me that I was trying to get rid of in the first place.  But I dont know how to get back on track...any suggestions?

I am reading my way through the message boards...so I pray that I will find my salvation in your comments.

I would start be calling your WLS doc just to make sure that nothing is "broken inside",  You could have something else going on and not even know it.
Then start back to basics. Measure everything, no drinking while eating. protein first, only good carbs, Track everything you eat,  If you don't like fitday just get a small note book and write down everything. Start moving, if you haven't worked out for a while start slow. When you go to WalMart, KMart, Kroger, etc. part about 25 parking spaces away from the door and walk.
I too have gained no one is perfect. You have come here and we're here to help.
Losing is the EASY part. MATAINING is HE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can do this,
We all can do this,
Robin

Hello Blessed One,
I am not as experienced as some of the other members here on the Grad board, but I do know how you are feeling.  I am 19mnths post op and I never reached my goal nor have I lost any weight in quite a while.  I can attribute my lack of weight lost to sliding back into my old habits which I'm trying to get a serious handle on.

I like so many other members gone back to the basics incorporating good eating habits and definitely staying away from the junk foods.
PROTEIN - EXERCISE & WATER are the keys to get you started again.  I know that sometimes that is easier said then done, but I put myself in the mine frame that I'm getting ready for the initial surgery where you had to be strict and stick to the basics for your surgery.

I try to plan my meals and I have gotten rid of all my demons like the potato chips and candy.  I take my lunch with me and I don't eat in the fast food restaurants except McDonald's or Wendy's when I purchase the salad or the Chili. You need to start exercising again especially if you've gotten away from it.  I had also slacked off on that but I back to waling on the treadmill at least 30 minutes a day.  If you can do it all at once spread it out, but you've got to get moving.

To tighten up your pouch and give you that new feeling again you can try this website www.5dpt.com   I did it and it made a big difference in how I was feeling food wise.  I sure more members will respond to your post, but don't give up....you can do it.

I agree with Genie and the first poster.  We have to keep trying and Fitday and 5 pt diet are great ways to do so.  Our tummies were 'fixed', not our heads.  We have to keep working on that.  That part of the journey was really not typically addressed well by surgeons.  I the medical profession will need find this to be true as more people are using WLS.  Don't ever give up!

The other ladies gave you great advise and I agree so I'm just gonna say, I know you can get back on track! I gained 24 lbs after reaching my lowest weight but lost 17 lbs of that. I joined ww to get back on track and just went back to the basics.

You are not alone! GOOD LUCK!

Hi Blessed One,

I know exactly how you feel. I had my surgery in Sept. 05 and I had lost 150 lbs and never got down near my goal weight. Since that time I had gained back 80 lbs and was really depressed.

I went to see a dietician and got back on track. I now work out with a personal trainer 2 days a week and then on my own for another 3-4 days a week. I went back to basics, protein, water and exercise. No drinking 30 minutes before or after eating. In the last 3 months I have lost 40 lbs. I am so excited about that.

I thought maybe I had stretched my pouch, but I didn't. It still works right if we do what we are supposed to do. OH has helped me alot and I am on here everyday. I am more of a lurker though. If you need anything don't be afraid to ask. Good Luck, you can do it...........Jill

Just sending a hug, stay on the board and keep reading .. it will motivate you.
The fact that your concerned about it has shown your not giving up.

Thank you all for the help, advice and encouragement!  I was so depressed and disappointed that I punished myself by not reconnecting with those who know exactly what I am going through!

I will try all of your suggestions...because honestly, it can not do any more harm than what I have done to myself these past two years!  Heck...I have gotten so far off track that I didn't even record the right year that I had the surgery (it just seems so long ago)!

I will now come back often and chat, blog and stay on track!
