Topic: Please help me!

I am 11 years out from an RNY. I lost 100% of my extra weight and kept it off for about nine years. I have had several surgeries, chronic pain issues, and have lost my exercise mojo. I have gained 20 pounds. I went to a surgeon (not my original, because I now live in a different country...but a reputable one.) The first words out of his mouth were "do you eat sugar?" And I answered yes. He told me to cut all sugar, check lanels to keep it under 5%, not drink fejit juices or eat sried fruit (fresh was fine) and all the weight would come off. That was in May. I have followed that to a T, and have lost between none and three pounds (depending on the day). I eat healthy, and don't graze, and I am so FRUSTRATED!!!! I habe started wearing my fitbit again, and have been gettig about 7000-7500 steps in a day, and this weight is not shifting. I'm really depressed. I have a closet full of nice clothes I can't wear. I realize to some twenty poinds sounds like no big deal, but it is when you've worked as hard as I have. I have been totally vigilant. The doc told me not to count calories, eat protein and fat--just cut sugar. Since I cut the sugar, my digestive system has improved--I was having terrible bloating, pain, diarreah, and sometimes terrible bowel urgency issues. That's stopped, except for some bloating. Can anyone advise me??? I asked the doc, what if I do this and the weight doesn't come off? He assured me that it would. Ugggh! Thank, you for taking the time to read this post, and especially to those *****spond.

No disrespect, but WHY are you eating cupcakes, ice-cream, etc??? After WLS you MUST act as if you have Diabetes. That means NO sugar, NO sweets, etc. When I go to the Dr's/Hospital I tell them I have diabetes 2 so they DON'T use a sugar/dextrose IV. Yes Reactive hypoglycemia is a big factor, and its caused by blood sugar dropping and rising. If I even had a tiny LICK of ice cream or frosting my blood sugar would spike and then drop. The lowest its dropped is 20. NO SWEETS! Your life is on the line, you knew what you were in for when you had WLS whether it is RNY, DS, VSG. Tell your family and friends you have diabetes and ditch ANY sugar (Dextrose, sucrose, etc)

Warmly,

Jackie

Topic: RE: Getting Back on Track Strategies

I'd like to stay tuned to this. I am six and a half years out, and over the last two years (very slowly) I'm up thirty pounds and I feel horrible about it. Slowly eased into eating more, snacking more, and even eating sweets, which I had stopped craving completely and written off, plus picked up a nasty little wine habit, but I've backed off that considerably. I originally lost about 110 lbs, but stabilized at 160-165 (I'm 5'10) and was quite happy with that. I'm now in a size 12 vs. an 8 and I want to get back there. I can't work out like I did back then -- 2 hours a day, six days a week -- because I'm in a much more demanding job---but I can work out normally, like four days a week an hour at a time, and I can change my habits. I have a friend who has challenged me to a half marathon in December and presently I cannot even run a mile without stopping, so there is also that!!!

Topic: RE: How are you successful at keeping your weight off?

Almost 14 post op and still at goal. I don't eat after 6pm. I don't eat a lot. I don't count calories but my guess would definately be under 1000 calories. I finally eat to live and food is just something I have to eat. I guess I am very lucky I don't feel hunger

Topic: Getting Back on Track Strategies

I'm a 13 year vet but still have times when things get off track for a little while and I gain anywhere from a couple up to 15 lbs. I know it's important to just get back to the basics and all the WLS rules. But I usually need a little jump-start. I need to re-set my body - get off the craving wagon.I have a few "get back on track" strategies that often work for me. The one that works the best for me is going to just protein and green veggies for 4-5 days. That resets my taste buds and my cravings. I'll also make a big pot of dense veggie soup and eat a small bowl of that as often as I want for about 3 days and add a little protein each meal. Again, it resets taste buds and cravings.

I'd love to hear about what strategies you use. More ideas are always better. Let's share strategies and maybe we can all learn something new.

Thanks!

Great! I'm sort of in the same boat. Had my surgery 13 years ago. I still have challenges and days and weeks where I struggle. Overall I'm doing great though. I moved from the city where I had my surgery and don't have a group where I am now. I also used to come to OH a lot early on and am now revisiting and remembering that being in touch with others is always good.

Topic: 12 years post-op

I mainly wanted to say hi and a quick introduction. I'm 12 years post-op RnY. I have lost and maintained - 150lbs. I used to be on these message boards a ton back then. I first came here for learning about my ex-husbands RnY, and then prior to my own surgery and after... But of course the further after surgery I kinda drifted away from here. I think it might be good for me to have some other long term post-op people in my life so I can delve into health issues this far out and find others *****late. Thanks! - Dee
