I have got to get back to this!!!  I agree with you a million percent and it definitely works.  This week has been a huge re-training session for me and I definitely needed it.  I am starting with not getting over 1300 cals a day but I am honestly trying to stay under 1200.  I am just trying to give myself a week to refigure my numbers and meals.

Thank you for the much needed reminder and for sharing with me!

I deal with 'withdrawal' from the act of eating, even after all these years too.  The only eating formulation I find that actually satiates me, and makes me feel like I CAN eat or that I'm not being denied is following a Keto or Atkins style regimen.

Protein first- don't skimp on the fats- then vegetables (non starchy) then a carb if there's room.  (And if there's room, then you probably did it wrong!)

It really kills the random cravings that are difficult to deny.  Even when you are able to deny them, you still feel like you're sacrificing.  SO, for me- better not to get the cravings if at all possible.

I think you are right on target and I have learned recently that I was getting to 'big for my britches.'  I am cutting back to about 1200 and I can tell a difference already...though I am going through some mental withdrawal issues because of my own issues with food obsession.

Ha!  I love the 'denial' thing...I have never heard that one!!!  That is a great idea to write it on your mirror; I have also never thought to do that but there would be the number staring you right in the face.  Congratulations on all of your success and continue to share!

Well, I must say seeing how many calories some of y'all can eat depressed me a bit.  lol.  I need to be close to 1200 or I will gain.  And I exercise 5 days a week.

If I want to loose, I need to knock it back to like 900- which is appalling to think about.  But, there it is.

10+ years out. Weekly, every Sunday morning.  And I write it down.  On the bathroom mirror in marker. This way I can see my trends and adjust or at least be AWARE.  I know the moment I don't want to weigh, I've got issues to deal with.  (generally emotional or boredom eating for me).  Additionally I make SURE I don't avoid the full length mirror.  I have one at my door going out of the house and one in my bedroom plus a very large mirror covered wall in the bathroom.  "Denial- it ain't just a river in Egypt", as the joke goes.  Once I'm in that denial zone...it's hard to come back from.

OH! And fluctuations... gee, I can see 5+ pounds in fluctuation pretty normally, especially around period time.

I used to do the same thing every morning!  I agree; a 5lb. weight change would and does bother me too.  Thank you so much for sharing!

In order to keep myself on track, I weigh myself every morning before I shower.  It keeps me knowing what I need to do and how much attention I need to pay.  I NEVER allow myself to go up more than 5 lbs.  5lbs in fact bothers me, so I start paying close attention.  The only time I don't weigh myself is if I am on vacation and there's no scale.

To be truthfully honest, I don't count calories or track nutrients. I'm 9 years post-op and I've maintained my weight loss/goal. I feel I've gotten a pretty good eating routinge down.  I also don't weigh myself unless I think I may have gained a few pounds.  If that's the case, I make a conscious effort of watching what I eat and focus more closely to what, how and when I'm eating.

Now, all of the being said, when I was not as far out from my surgery I did track my food online at Sparkpeople.  I feel that's an important practice to get into so you see how and why certain foods and eating habits effect your weight loss and maintenance.

Thank you for all of the helpful information.  I also have a hard time losing weight, even with all of the exercise I do.  I am definitely re-evaluating my diet these days!!!
