Eating while angry.
Does anyone have the problem of eating because they are angry? I just realized that I have two very bad habits. one is eating while/because I'm angry, and the other is eating while driving. Well tonight I was angry because I showed up with a lot of other people for a class that my surgeon required us to go to and the class ended up being canceled. Then I had to drive 45 minutes back home for nothing. On the way home I hit the McDonalds drive thru. I now know where all of my extra weight comes from. I started eating while driving when I started college because I would leave work hungry and by the time I got back to my dorm room the dining hall was closed. Now when I'm angry I turn to food. As you can imagine, I get angry a lot.
How can I break these habits? Has anyone overcome these problems?

Wendy,
I think emotional eating is a problem for a lot of us. I know I am trying to conquer it. Even though surgery is going to help people lose weight, it will not change habits on it's own. I think you have done a fantastic thing already, you have identified that you eat when you are angry. Now take advantage of that knowledge. If you get mad, think about it when you are getting ready to go through that drive thru. Ask yourself if the food is going to make you feel better, or if it is just an excuse. Ask yourself if that order of french fries is going to help you or not. If you are aware of it and try to overcome it, nothing can stop you.
Also, if you need to eat out (if you have a 45 minute commute, sometimes there is not time to cook, I know because I have one), know the good alternatives that your doctor approves (my dietician actually gave me a list of approved...not prefered...things at McDonald's and Burger King that I could have within my diet). Or I have an Applebee's on the way home. It is a few dollars more expensive than McDonalds, but they do have the Weigh****chers Menu and Curbside to Go service. So sometimes that may be a better alternative.
I know it is really hard, but you can do it. Hope this helped a little.
