Hello all! I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a huge problem. I'm 5'2 weighing about 193 pounds. My BMI is over 35 but not 40. I have lower back problems and some other health issues related to obesity, but I'm having trouble finding a Dr. That will take me on. Any advice? Has anyone heard of getting WLS being under a 40 on the BMI scale? xoxo

When I saw my surgeon my BMI was 44.8... by two months before my surgery my BMI was 39.5. My surgeon told me to maintain my weight in those two months and not lose any more. You are barely over a 35 BMI... what has your BMI been over the past 5 years?? Are you trying to get WLS or get lapband?? Since you have a lesser amount of weight to lose you may want to check out the lapband option instead. I know most drs for WLS want you to be a minimum of 100lbs overweight.. I know people who were borderline but you are pretty low - good luck thou!

Hi, Rebecca! Have you tried Barix Clinics? That's where I had my surgery done, and I'm guessing they'd take you. They're more of a business than other hospitals. I had virtually no pre-recs, they just needed to know what kind of surgery I wanted. They have clinics all over the country, so there may be one near you. The surgeons are great at the surgery, but I'd go elsewhere for post op care. Google them for their website. Hope that helps! LB

My BMI was 37.5 at its highest. I had high BP and I was pre diabetic, so my surgeon took me. I think a lot of policies say that if your BMI is less than 40, it has to be 35 or greater with at least 2 morbs.

Hello hun-- I am under the 40 mark with my BMI-- my surgeon asked if I was at my highest weight now -- and i wasn't. My highest weight was 250 (i had lost 50 pounds and am gaining it back up to 230 now)-- so the doctor used that when he wrote to the insurance (as that gives me a higher BMI)-- i wonder if this is your highest weight? I don't know if that would make a difference to any of the people you are currently working with on this-- but just wanted to share-- Good luck to you doll!! -Mandy
