Denied Twice

Has anyone eles been denied 2 or more times because the insurance company felt that because of your age you have not attempted all possible WL options?? I'm 25 years old, been overweight/obese my whole life and morbidly obese the past 5 years. I have medica and they denied me a month ago, my surgeons office sent in the appeal and they denied me again. this is really frustrating.

Okay. I haven't had the same problems but I just got approved from my surgery. DO NOT GIVE UP ON THIS. I swear to god fight them to the death over getting this surgery. Have you called the company directly to see why you are being denied? There might be a six month waiting thing but all I can tell is stick with it. I'm having surgery on December 4th. I'm nervous and excited but you CAN get approved. I am only 21. I will be thinking about you. It breaks my heart that companies can deny this surgery which is FOR A DISEASE but have no problem paying for other surgeries that are diseases too. Just keep going for the gold. If you have to switch jobs, do more diets, whatever. Just stick with it. I'll be thinking about you! Em

I was denied twice and approved on the 3rd appeal. I know it is frustrating... my entire process from first surgeon visit to surgery took me 10 loooong months! I cant imagine they having an issue with your age being 25... I know they sometimes take issue when people are much younger - around 16,17,18 etc. Just keep fighting the insurance and prepare another appeal. Did you do an appeal yourself or just the surgeon? Sometimes including a personal appeal helps. Also if you can get letters from other Drs who support you include those as well. Good luck.
