PS Question to the childfree 20 somethings
I havent had my WLS yet but I do expect a significant amount of loose skin on my tummywhen I reach goal.
I Know Drs do not recommend that those of us who do not have children yet get TTs, BUT Id like to know if anyone has gotten there Tummys tucked regardless. Id just like to hear some of your experiences.
I am only 19 and have not had any children yet either. I am about 6.5 months out and have already noticed a SIGNIFICANT amount of excess skin in my abdomen and my breasts have significantly "withered away." I am going to wait until next December to have my plastics done, but I am going to have plastic surgery. THere are several types of procedures that are similar to the tummy tuck. The one that I am thinking about having done is just like a tummy tuck, but they do not do anything to the muscles of the abdominal wall. When you are pregnant your muscles get stretched and the organs in you abdomen get moved around to the point that every thing is kind of hodge-podged in there. Well, I go to the gym and do weight lifting exercises and the muscles in my abdomen are just fine. All they will do is remove the excess skin in my abdomen, lift the skin around my pelvic area, and tighten the skin above my belly button and around my hips. I have also looked into a procedure where they cut you all around and tighten from hip to hip (including back area). Ibelieve this procedure is called a pannilectomy.
I don't know if I will ever get pregnant, but if I do I do understand that my skin will again stretch and this time the muscles in my abdomen will be effected and a second tummy tuck procedure may be necessary. I am prepared for that and am willing to conquer that when I get there, but for now, the excess skin is really bothering me. I am not seeing anyone right now, but when the time comes for me to get married and go on a honeymoon, I want to be able to wear that bikini that I can now finally fit into, but actually look good in it too without the wrinkles of withered skin pushed under the flaps of material. Good luck to you and your decision making!
There are two types of TTs.. partial and full. Full is where they tighten the skin and muscle - which they reccomend against if you want to get preggers in the future. Partial is where they remove only the skin. Issue with the partial is because only the skin is tightened it will eventually become loose again (I think it takes quite a few years thou!!) since the muscles underneath wernt touched. I believe most PSurgeons will not do a full TT on you if you are too young.
I'm definitely with you, Kristin. I plan on having a baby as soon as my 2-year post-opp arrives... it's one of the main reasons I'm getting this surgery in the first place (so I'll be able to conceive and be healthy). I know I'll have plenty of extra skin not only in my abdomen, but my back, arms, and lady-area, so I figure that it'd just be best if I waited until after my baby stretched me out again!
Whatever you choose, I think you're amazingly smart for considering all your options!
