I'm 22 and trying to decide between LapBand and RNY. For those in your 20s -- can you comment and say what surgery you got and whether or not your skin sags at all? I hear RNY is more likely but I figured with our younger age, maybe our skin is more resilient. I'm hoping...  THANKS!! :o)

I had RNY when I was 27, now 28. Of course my skin sags!!! I was one hundred pounds overweight my entire life! I have lost 123 pounds. That is a long time for ones skin to be stretched out! I have stretch marks and that equals damaged skin that will not bounce back to fit your body. I will be having plastic surgery in December~ Holli

I am only 6 weeks out and down 50lbs from my highest and can already see where the skin isn't going to jump back like Holli said stretch marks are signs of damamged skin and that is not going to just bounce back. TT for one, for all haha :)

Ditto for me...I had RNY almost seven months ago. I have lost a total of 115 lbs. and definately have a bunch of sagging skin in all the areas my weight was concentrated. I don't see it in my face, lower arms, and lower legs, but everywhere else epecially my abdomen and chest - where I carried the majority of my fat. The skin is loose, saggy, and kind of wrinkley...Plastic surgery is definetly something I hope to have, but it will all depend on insurance and or my ability to pay for it....

I had my RNY 22 months ago... have lost 190 pounds.  I have skin sagging on my skin! ha ha.  My Tummy Tuck helped and I'm going to keep thinking my Olay Radiance Revival or something like that lotion has helped alot.   Over time my skin is getting tighter- whether its from my workouts or just natural bounce...  My arms have gotten alot better!

I am going to tell you what I wish people told me when I asked this question.... start saving for plastic surgery NOW! You are young... you will WANT to 'fix' all the sag and bag... certain areas may snap back better than others... or you may be able to 'accept' or live with certain things not looking 100% but there will be areas you will not be happy with.  There are many people older than me who would kill to have my body time currently... but I have already looked into PS - to the tune of $40,000!!!! Being younger... you have your ENTIRE life ahead of you... thats a long time to live with the 'scars' of being a formerly overweight person IMO.

Hi.  I too am 22.  I had my surgery when I was 21.  Im almost 8 months out from RNY.  You are going to have saggy skin no matter what...at some place on your body...especially if you're having lap band or RNY.  I mean, im pretty sure you have to be 100lbs overweight.  So, being 100lbs overweight is gonna leave some saggy skin somewhere.  I started at 270lbs.  I am currently 145lbs.  A lot of people tell me that I dont look like I used to be a big person, or that my frame is really little and they didnt see that before.  My arms and thighs are fine as far as needing PS.  They do need to be toned...which the gym will do.  But my stomach is in need of PS soon.  I actually thought it was going to look a lot worse.  I mean im a size 10/11 in juniors and I can wear the low rise jeans...i thought i was going to have this huge bulge i would have to tuck into my pants...but its really not like that.  Its just some excess skin.  But if it wasnt there, i would probably be in a size 7 pant!  But exercising will help with either procedure...but being 100lbs overweight will come with some saggy somewhere!!!  good luck and please feel to ask me any questions!!

I was 22 when I had my Duodeanal Switch (DS)(contact me if you want to know about it, There are other choices besides RNY and Lap-Band)It has the best long term results and yet allows me to eat like a normal person. My face retracted great, lower legs great, arms aint to bad. Upper legs a little loose nothing terrible though But I carried it all in the middle ever since I was 3. So I am just SOL with any hope of that bouncing back. Here I come Tummy tuck. And reason for difference in skin retraction is not the surgery itself its how fast you lose. Just an FYI.
