Hernia? Scar tissue?

I am a little over two weeks out of laparoscopic surgery and so far everything has been smooth.  I have my 2 week follow up on Wed.   The one thing that worries me a bit is that under one of my incisions I have a hard lump that is about the size of a jalepeno pepper.  It doesn't hurt and it isn't bulging out, in fact the area around the incision actually is dented in.  This was the incision that hurt the most though in the days after the surgery. Anybody with experience have any guesses if this is an incisional hernia or just scar tissue?

I didn't have that, but maybe it is just swelling. Have you asked your doctor? Sorry, I don't have more of an explanation for you~ Holli

I am having the same thing right under my 2-inch scar... but my post-op doc visit is thursday, and yours is wednesday, so you'll know before i do! It concerned me at first, but not so much now, but i'm still going to ask.  I read about a hernia, and they said that if it disapeared when you lie down, or protruded when you cough or strain your ab muscles, those were signs of a hernia... but i'm no doctor! let me know what your doc says!

He said it's normal, which I pretty much figured.  Didn't say it was scar tissue exactly.  Said that it's the biggest incision and the one he used the most.  Because of that they pulled the fascia together and stitched it closed ( they didn't do this for the other ones) which is the reason is is harder under the skin.

from what it sounds like it might just be swollen. or there might just be some scar tissue forming. Let us know what they say. By the way, is that a Mizzou hat you are wearing???

Yes it is.  I went there from '97 to '03.  Go Mizzou!  Boo Kansas!  I'm surprised you knew that.  I get stopped regularly by people who think the M is for Michigan.

Its just scar tissue... you can break it up (as long as your scars are no longer open). My suggestion is to use vitamin E oil and massage in ONE direct (i.e. top to bottom, not up and down)... you dont have to use the same direction each time... apply light pressure and you will notice over time the scar will get softer, less noticeable and the scar tissue will be gone!
