This stinks stinks stinks!  My insurance has had my paperwork for RNY almost 5 weeks now... and they STILL haven't decided if I'm approved or not!  I call every day to bug them and each time I'm given a different answer: It takes 2-6 weeks. We need 3-5 weeks to process a preauthorization. We need 30 more days. Call at the end of the week. It'll be 10 more days. We didnt receive anything until Oct 8 (LIE!) Nurses are on our review panel. They take time. There's a paperwork back up. and on and on and on.  I'm trying really hard to stay upbeat, positive, encouraged and faithful, because I know this is God's will for me.  I'm just feeling bummed and discouraged today because I see so many people posting that they have their surgery dates. And I've been working on this for almost a year now.     Can I get some lovin' and hugs, please? Heather

I don't hardly recognize myself or my life anymore!

I would check what the laws in your state say about approval time allowed... most states is around 30 CALANDER days... some go up to 45... I use to work at the insurance company and the reason they are giving you so many answers... I can almost guarantee they are backed up. The end of the year is crunch time... theres a ton of requests sent in because people want to get procedures done before their Deductible/OOP starts over at the beginning of next year.  What is the date they have they received it? (not when you sent)... if its been over 30 calander days I would ask for a supervisor or see if your Drs office can call and put a fire under their butts. They may tell the Dr something they cant tell you.

Sweet! Jennifer, you're a great resource to have on board.  Thanks for the advice.  I'll definitely pry more specific info out of them and have Barix Clinics get on the phone and start lighting some fires for me, too.   So the limit for most states is 30 calendar days, not business days?  Then they better get a BIG ol' move on b/c time is running out!  They either received the paperwork Oct 5 or the 8th... which is way later than the date I actually faxed everything to them.    Ah, fun fun fun.

Heres lots of love and hugs from me!

I know exactly how you feel. I was hoping to have had my surgery already. It took forever to get my date. It only took 2 weeks to get approved from insurance but I waited 2months and a day to get my surgery date from the clinic! I was hoping to have surgery in Sept but now its going to be in November. But then something awful happened, my mom had a stroke and I had to go to Tennessee and pick her up and all her stuff and move her in with me up here in Minnesota. I look back at that and I realize that if I would have had my surgery when I thought I was, I would not have been able to get my mom. SHe got all moved up here and then 3 days later I got my date. God has a plan, He knows what he is doing! It may not be on our timetable but it is on His and thats when things work out.

So I will say a prayer that you will get approved soon and a date soon after! Hang in there! If you ever want to vent, PM me anytime!

Hi MIssy!  I'm so sorry to hear about your mom!  What a worrisome and stressful time that must hav been.  I hope your life has calmed down enough so that you can relax and prepare for your coming surgery.  God does have a plan, and we just have to trust that he can see things we can't.  Although the last year of waiting has been tough, it's very true that I've also needed the time to get my head, heart and life together.  So, thank you for your encouragement!  Keep me posted on your progress, too!

Hey welcome fellow Michigander!!  Where in michigan are you??  I am just outside of Flint. When I got approved and all nothing went well with out me hounding doctors to get paperwork done.. the clinic at hurley was great but it was usually everyone else that caused problems.... I hope you have some good luck.. once you get the desire to have surgery i know it cant happen quick enough!
