OT - Something FANTASTIC happened to me today!
I got a job! It's been awhile, and it's been great playing Mr. Mom and hanging around OH all day for the past few months. But my back is feeling better and it is time to focus on my career and start contributing to the family budget again. The hard thing is that I used to work in landscaping, and the only way I could get back into it is if I found a job in management. Before, i was a supervisor / foreman and I still had to spend at least 75 percent of my day doing physical labor, but with my bad spinal discs, that is no longer an option. I have the experience, it was just a matter of being able to find someone to give me a chance...Well, today I found someone willing to let me be a superintendant! I will be managing five crews throughout AZ, NM, CA, CO, and UT..The majority of our work will be with governmental agencies - highway landscaping, erosion control, native re-vegetation, etc...The great thing is that the pay is great, I'll get a company truck (so no gas bill for my 30 minute commute!) and I will get to travel some, but it won't be too much. Finally, Finally, I will be compensated for my mental abilities, not just what I can do with my hands and my back!..I can't tell you how thrilled I am to get my career back on track! Oh yeah, and going into the interview without wondering about what they are thinking about my abilities based on my obesity was a HUGE confidence booster. No weight- discrimination to worry about for the first time was refreshing. I start monday, so if you don't see me as much around here, you'll know why......just wanted to share.....
