Which is best?
I've been trying to figure this out for quite some time now, and I have had ZERO luck. I know there are pros and cons to each different type of surgery, but how to choose the surgery that is right for me....
I am 24 (will be 25 this month) 5'10" and 340 lbs. I don't consume a huge number of calories each day (roughly 1200 - 1500 per day... below what I should be consuming for this weight by about 1500 calories), and my BMI is around 47 or 48. I have tried "diets", and of course none of them do any good. I will lose a few lbs, but then shoot back up, even without digging into bad habits.
I am a carb fiend. LoL I know that carbohydrates (especially breads) are the biggest problem I have when it comes to the types of food I put in my body, but I just can't bring myself to do something as extreme as Atkins... I dunno, it just seems like if you cut out a fundamental part of the human diet, it can't be good for you in the long-run.
I exercise, though not as much as I would like. At the present, I walk about 20-30 minutes per day, just around my neighborhood. It's all flat, no real hills to speak of. I would estimate it is probably between 1 mile and 1 1/2 miles, but that's estimating.
I do have PCOS, as well as a curved spine (not related to the weight). These things do tend to make exercise and weight-loss a little difficult, as I am sure many of you know. :)
So which surgery would be right for me? I am drawn to the DS surgery, just because I like what I've read about the lower complication ratios, and I like the results I've seen. I am not partial to the standard RNY surgery, but that is mostly because of bad experiences in my family. I'm not looking for a medical opinion, just the input of those who have already chosen, or who are going through this same struggle.
Thanks for reading, I know it was a little rambly. :D

Thanks for the input, you guys. :D I know it needs to be my decision, but it always helps to have the opinions of those who have already been through this. :)
I'm still really drawn to the idea of the DS surgery, though it depends a lot on what insurance I end up with (job hunting at the moment), and what they'll pay for. I've been researching the different insurance carriers, and looking at all the reviews on this site... I think my eyes are going on strike! LoL The job I'm hoping for is First National Health (I think that's what they're called... it's "First" something-or-other) and it looks like they're not too difficult to convince... I live in South Dakota, so I'm crossing my fingers that the insurance I end up with doesn't pitch a fit when I ask for DS instead of RNY.

Hey, Sioux Falls! I had Lap Band with Dr. Thaemert of the Surgical Institute in the McKennan building. He alsy did a friend of mine's RNY.
I recommend him until I'm blue in the face!
