post surgery food question

I am 2 months post op, my husband wants to go to a movie tomorrow night with a married couple friend of ours. I am wondering about popcorn. I probably wont eat much if I eat any but id like to know that it will agree with my pouch before I try it. Did your pouch deal with popcorn well after surgery?

Yea ...I was ok but don't over do it with the butter...but I don't think it will hurt or make you dump

Thanks, I made sure that my husband put no butter on it, and I had about 10 pieces of popcorn.

I did not try popcorn until a year out, but that is just me. I have not had a problem with it though! I would take beef jerky to the movies instead...more meat please! Holli

Thanks for the advice holli, I did end up taking a beef jerky like product my husband keeps a bunch of them lots of protein, and a bottle of crystal light... :)

I don't think I was allowed to eat popcorn until 3 months out, the logic behind it I believe was to avoid puttin anything in your still-healing pouch that could scratch or irritate it. If you are tolerating other foods of "questionable" texture, then you will be fine....that said I eat popcorn sometimes. it is yummy. chew it well and you will do fine....I like the jerky idea better - protein good, carbs sit fine, but stall my weight loss, but that's just me...

I have been doing really well with all foods, and I called the NUT and she said that as long as it didnt have butter i would be okay to try a little and ofcourse chew it completely! I had like 10 kernels of popcorn and some other protein snacks, i think all and all the movie went fine and i lost 2 1/2 lbs this week :)

I know it is too late for the movie - but just an fyi - I eat popcorn occasionally. It never bothered me. I waited until 3-4 months post-op (same reasons Mike listed), and never had any issues with it. In moderation it's almost all good - but you knew that already

I wasnt allowed popcorn until after 4 months out.. because of the small size it can get 'stuck' along the way in your plumbing. After that point I eat popcorn without any problems. I like to sneak my own popcorn into the movies because theirs is so horrible for you!

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)
