You should try keeping some chocolate flavored protein powder in case of emergeny....put individual scoops in little snack bags that you can pour into a cold bottle of water or one of those "shakers" they sell at GNC....I like to add some powdered milk and powdered sf ff insant pudding mix into the bag to make it taste even better. Travel powdered baby formula dispensers work great too. Just a tip, works for me - maximum conveniance and portabitty.

I don't understand why it has to be SF.  Is that an RNY thing?

Yup, it's the infamous "dumping syndrome" some RNYers are succeptable and some aren't, and the amount and type of sugar that can lead to an episode of dumping varies too. So unfortunatly for those who are "dumpers" you have to figure that out the hard way through trial and error.

I didn;t know that about your surgery.  That your food has to be SF.  I learned something today.

It's more complicated then that - it doesn't have to be SF, it just can't have too much of the wrong kinds of sugar AND for some who have RNY this doesn't happen at all to them, or it can even stop happening after a period of time. For me personally, it is refined or white sugars that get me and that is only if I consume about 13 or more grams in a sitting. Other factors play into it too, such as what I am eating the sugar with, or if I am drinking with the meal...it's very complicated - Dex Edwards (DxE) has authoured an incredibly well written (as all his stuff is) post explaining just about everything you ever wanted to know about dumping - you can find it by searching on the men's forum...

I'll be a monkey's uncle.  Sounds hard.  I'll be honest, I did very little research on RNY, and, after my surgeon said GET LAP BAND INSTEAD, I did no research.

I over analyze everything! So what I did was chose RNY for reasons that are particular to my situation. What was important for me though, can be completely irrelevant for the next guy choosing his path, but for me the negative conditioning that dumping would provide was a positive because my cravings for sugar before were so bad that I started drinking a 12 pack of regular Mountain Dew per day AFTER I was told I was pre-diabetic, so of course by the time I had my WLS I had developed full-blown Type II Diabetes. The good news though, is that now I don't take any medications or do any blood sugar checks and my HgA1C results (the primary method for determining how your blood sugar control has been over the past three months) are perfect!
