I think I found a doc.
I found a doctor... again... for like... the 4th time! Seriously I keep changin my mind. So i think i found a doc in Michigan his name is Mark Pleatman. He is actually in the US (as opposed to Mexico). We are now exchanging emails to see what all I will need to do to get the surgery.
I'm mainly running into a problem becuase I don't have a primary care physician. I'm one of those people that never goes to a doctor. I don't get sick and if I do its not for long. I go for my women's yearly but I don't think she would be able to sign off saying its okay for me to get surgery.
I also need a psych evaluation.. hoorah... not a big fan of that either.... mainly money reasons.
So now I just need to get the money to have the surgery. I am more than likely not getting it till after this semester is over (thats in the beginning of May). So I have some time to save up but when i calculated it it will take me about 10 months to save up the money and thats only IFF nothing happens (i.e. car breaks down etc.)
So i am going to keep my fingers crossed. I asked my mother if she would pay for half the surgery but we'll see, we don;t have the bst relationship so its doubtful.

I didn't have a PCP either when I started this entire process. Actually, I kinda did but I had to look for a new one because she was very adamantly AGAINST weight loss surgery. Typical! So, one day I went to the Texas Members Board (my home state) and asked if anyone could refer a PCP to me and I actually had a couple of replies and the one I inquired about turned out to be the best choice for me and let me just tell you that she is AMAZING and so on board with me about having this surgery. I suggest you go to your state's message board here on Obesity Help and just inquire to see if there is anyone in your area that can refer a physician. It's worth a shot!!!
Congrats on finding a doctor here in the states! I hope it works out!!!
Hey I'm a future Pleatman patient as well. I just met with the Doc in his office yesterday. It looks like a go ahead, but I need to get clearance from my PCP, too. The soonest I could get in was 1/31. I actually didn't have one, so this will be my first appointment with her. I am hoping that goes well, and maybe, just maybe, I could still get squeezed in for Feb.
Good Luck and congrats! If you have any questions, let me know.
