WOOOOO!!!
I found a cheaper surgeon in teh US and my mom said she would give me $6000 toward my surgery! I have a 5,5000 loan and I need to save up about another 3,500 for the airplane ticket hotel etc.
So its official I will be getting Lap. RNY sometime in May I need to email the doc. again and see what all I have to do to schedule and make sure there are no hidden charges.
the charges say the surgeon fee, the hospital fee and the anesthesiologist fee. What other charges would they charge me? I was thinking medication fee but what else? (obviously this is if there are no complications)

From my understanding, the price given is the price. Period. I just paid the $200 fee to meet with him yesterday, and that is it. Nothing extra, unless your BMI is over 50, then you have pay an additional $500 for anesthesia.
That's it. No hidden costs. Dr. Pleatman said that he will be giving all meds that I'll need at first before the surgery, so I won't have to worry about getting them filled after. I'm guessing that I will still have to pay my co-pay for getting the Rx filled, but no additional cost for the Doc writing them.
Check out AirTran for good airfare deals. I flew to Orlando roundtrip for about $120 INCLUDING taxes.
**Edited because I think faster than I type**
Yes, its $11.5K for lap RNY and $11K for the sleeve. It is great. He was able to negotiate a good deal with the hospital. I ran into one of his patients at his office who had lap RNY done six months ago. She just kept saying "It was the best thing I've ever done!"
I think everywhere charges insurance more than self pay patients. I would guess that it is for two reasons; billing and waiting for payment from insurance requires more work, and because if insurance is paying who needs to be competitive?
