The amount of calories and carbs will vary depending on how much you had bypassed - typically with less bypassed you require less than with more. For carbs - it varies a lot by surgeons preference - many surgeons keep the carbs extremely limited for the first 6 months, sometimes up until somebody loses... my surgeon is more liberal with carbs. If you are working out intensely you also require more carbs. There is no answer as to how many carbs are too many - its more a matter of where the carbs are comming from - the majority of your carbs should be fruits, veggies, dairy and limited in the bread/starch department. At 6 months here were my goals 800-900 calories 30g fat 80g carbs 60-70g protein

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5

Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Like Jennifer said, everyone is different, and everyone's program requirements tend to vary too. For me, when I was in the "active losing" stage - I shot for around 800-1200 calories a day and tried to limit my carbs as much as I could - which usually meant no more then around 20-40 grams per day...The idea was to create a calorie deficit of 500+ calories a day compared to what my body was using - that should translate to more then a pound a week when combined with the addtion of calories used exercising and the "malabsorbtion factor" I think my weight fell off at an average of 2-3 pounds a wee****il I neared goal....

It is all relative.  But here is approximately what my goals were.... First 6 months... 60-70g protien 800 calories less than 60g carbs 6-12 months 60-70g protien 1000 calories less than 80g carbs 12-18 months 70+g protien 1000-1200 calories less than 80g carbs MAINTINENCE 70+g protien 1200-1400 calories less than 140g carbs How many carbs are too many?  Though it depends on your activity level and other factors, I would say for someone 6 months-ish out, than anything over 100g is way too much.  Your goals should be more like less than 60-80g a day.  I say that because you're not able to eat very much at a time, so you need to be filling that space with protien.  I had an awesome nut that I worked with post-op and he said it to me this way "The most useless kind of calorie is a calorie from carbs because they are so easily absorbed your body almost doesn't have time to use them before they are already going to storage".  Protien is the most complex so it is absorbed slower - giving your body all the time in the world to use it instead of sending it off to popular fat storage faucilities, next is fat and finally carbs.   I hope that makes sense!
