Question?
Hi, I am new to this site but I will be having RNY gastric bypass in May. I would like to have your input: I am leaving to Spain 4 months after my surgery to study there for a year. I wanted to know from those who have passed the 4 months, is most of the recovery over by then and do you think it will be extra hard? I was looking into it and there is a clinic in the part of Spain where I will be living that deals with RNY. Thanks for any input :) , Camila
Hi, Camila!
In my completely non-professional opinion, I think you should be fine. Baring any complications, of course. I vividly remember Thanksgiving after my RNY. I had surgery on October 14 and by that Thanksgiving I felt completely normal. Well, except for my inability to pig out with everyone else, but I'm not complaining. I even enjoyed a glass of red wine throughout the night. I know a lot of people will frown on that, but to each her own. Best of luck on your surgery!
Cheers!

Hi
Oh that sounds like so much fun studying in spain. I have been to the UK 2 times and am going a third time this summer. I love europe and would love to study there one day. After 4 months you should be fine. The first 2 months was the hardest at least for me. Everyone is different. I see no problem at all. Just follow and do what your suppose to and have the time of your life when your there.
Best of luck
Kira
A question to consider - does the program you are studying in Spain through have emergency medical evacuation covered? I am looking in to studying in Rome in Spring or Summer of 2009 and one of the deciding factors that I have taken in to consideration when deciding which program to go through is if they have emergency medical evacuation covered (and the program I have ultimately chosen, does).
Now you probably won't need it, BUT it would just be nice to know it is there. So check with your coordinator to see what kind of provisions they have for students should they have a medical emergency.
And definately get in touch with the place near where you are going that does RNY. Have your surgeon get in touch with them and make sure they have a copy of your medical records. Just in case.
I think you'll be fine. By 4 months I was down something like 60-70 pounds and ready to live life again. But I also had a nasty complication further down the road and if I wouldn't have had access to medical professionals familar with WLS I could have been in a lot of trouble.
I hope you are able to go and I hope it is an awesome experience for you!
