Accountability check - I've been slipping

I haven't been around here much lately, been travelling and entertaining house guests...In the process i have managed to ignore almost every rule in the book and not surprisingly, the scale shows it. I am up six pounds from my all-time low of 160 lbs...I think its enough to consider a gain and not jus****er retention....I've got to admit. I am completely freaked out...I think that all of us who get down to goal live with the fear that someday we'll find a way to screw it up....I'm determined not to let that happen...Starting this morning I'm re-dedicating myself to the rules and have set a reasonable goal of getting back to or below 160 by April 10....Which coincides with my other big news...I just yesterday booked a trip to Europe for that date. I will travel by myself to Dublin for a three day weekend and will be joined by my brother there. Then we will meet up with my dad in Warsaw, Poland for a week of him showing us where he was raised - discovering our roots, very cool. Now, how do you say "how many grams of sugar is in this dish?" In Polish?

I have yet to experience any weight regain but its always in the back of my mind. Being I just hit my latest goal in February I havent really had much in the way of maintenance. When did you hit the 160? As you can see I had surgery June of 2006... I read posts about people who had surgery around my same time experiencing regain as well - but they reached goal much sooner that I. They say that regaining 10% of what you lost is 'normal' but I wonder if its something that always happens and if it really truly is avoidable? I also wonder if the 10% regain hits those harder who dropped to a lower weight or lost quicker (like with the distal bypass versus a proximal)? Eitherway, since you said you wernt following the rules and it showed I am confident that by getting back on track you will lose the 6lbs that found you, keep us posted on your success!

I have seen those statistics too. Yet, despite being "below goal" and giving myself "wiggle room" in reality I'm not comfortable going up even ten percent even if it is typical....As for your question if some are more prone to some regain, I don't know the answer, but i will have to ask at my one year follow-up in a few weeks...My guess would be that those with the longer "distal' bypass would be less prone to bounce back weight because of the increased malabsorbtion - but it's just that, a guess.....I'll be alright though, I know this is because I have been doing whatever the hell I want eating and exercising wise (lots of one and none of the other!) so I have faith that if I correct that, the tool will work for me again! BTW, 160 was arond six weeks ago, But I have been around 160-165 since december (8.5 months from RNY - incredibly fast) I started at 297, 282 day of surgery 3/29/07 - I had laproscopic RNY - My bypass is about 90cm I'm assuming that is proximal? My high BMI was 43

Actucally the distals dont have any better chance of keeping the weight off than the proximals - eventually the intestines thicken and become better at absorbing so in the long run we are all the same. 90cm would be proximal, I had around 80cm done so we are the same.  I also want as much wiggle room as possible... even thou I am below my surgeons goal its hard not to want to lose more incase I regain... Im really happy where I am at now and dont want to go up from this point - not to mention I would have to go and dig out the larges/size 10 pants if I gain!
