Walking Vs. Water Walking

Anyone have any info on this?  When I am walking on land, I can do 1 mile (right now).  When I'm in the water, I can do much more.  Is one better than the other?  Is water walking as effective as I would hope?  I do the water walking exercises, with the "water weights".  I can definately feel it once I get out of the water!  That must mean something.  Yesterday, I ww'd 2 miles, freestyle swam 1 mile, and water jogged 1 1/2 miles.

I think it is better...less impact on your joints plus more resistance on your muscles...and most importantly it sounds like you enjoy it more - so you're more likely to actually do it - which is the most important thing!

Awesome!  I absolutely LOVE being in the water.  I'm that person that spends all her time in the summer at the lake, little niagara, waterparks, etc.  On the weekends of course!  I went this morning and walked 1 mile, and will be headed back to the Y tonight after work, for the water.  I just love that eventually, I will actually look decent out in public in the water!!  Not too mention, when I get done in the water, I can use the whirlpool, sauna, or steam room!  Big bonuses, though too long in the extreme heat makes me wanna pass out!

TRUTH IS WATER WALKING IS BETTER FOR YOU B/C OF THE ADDED PRESSURE OF THE WATER AGAINST YOUR MUSSLES.  JUST BECAREFULL AND MAKE SURE YOU DRINK WATER LOTS OS PEOPLE GET DEHYDRATED WHILE WATER WALKING B/C THE DONT NOTICE THEY SWEAT ;)

Ok, this is actually a question I can answer with some serious knowledge! haha.  I was a water walking and aerobics instructor (pre-getting fat) for about 4 years.  Walking on land is tougher on joints one way resistance Water walking - All Way resistance 30 minutes of water walking is equal to 3 hours on land!!!! safer on joints also teaches balance if you are doing water walking, find out of there is a water aerobics class as well, you will definitely want something that is a step up when your body gets used to water walking.  When I taught I changed up the routine EVERY class so that we were always getting a different muscle group work out.  i am hoping once i get this weight off (and our Y is finshed) that I can get back to teaching.
