Bacon...
I keep seeing recipes with bacon, and I thought bacon was full of fat. Is it really something we can eat? The one recipe that made my mouth drop was someone wrapping little smokies with bacon and sprinkling with Splenda brown sugar and baking. I couldn't imagine that being healthy, or ok. Am I wrong?!
yeah, it has a lot of fat, but that doesn't mean you can never eat it ever again.
I don't think that lil smokies wrapped in bacon would be conducive with weight loss and maintenance for someone with a band or RNY if they were eaten constantly in large portions on a regular basis. As someone with a DS, I only absorb about 20% of the fat I eat, so I have a little more freedom to eat fat than some other surgeries offer.
I will say that you can't go totally nonfat for the rest of your life or you are going to find yourself so incredibly constipated. You need some fat in your diet for general health, too.
That is something that you are going to have to work out with your nutritionist and/or surgeon. I'd say, in the beginning, just try to get all your protein in and iron out the specifics when you can.
I think many times people get so focused on the protein, they forget about the fat - cheese, bacon, dairy is a lot of fat - you should strive to stick to the LF versions as much as possible.
I find that turkey bacon is excellent - now dont get me wrong a good full fat piece of bacon is great now and then, but when it comes to adding bacon to food its much nicer to use the lower fat version so everything isnt greasy... you can still brown sugar the turkey bacon - I like to fresh black pepper mine - yummo!
I would say little smokies and bacon really arnt a good choice - those lil hotdogs are loaded with fat and salt (and nitrates!)... as well as the bacon... its fine to eat perhaps as a treat, but not a recipe I would personally post *shrug*

Around 4 months out from my RNY I was eating eggs and bacon every day for breakfast...then I really paid attention to the fat content...wow...I was suprised...I started making protein shakes for breakfast much healthier and easy for me (on the go all the time)
Funny story about Little Smokies...Work had a snack day and someone brought BBQ smokies...I thought I will eat one...I opened the crock pot and the smell of all the grease in that thing nearly made me gag...No smokies for me!!! I cringe at the thought of that smell...
