What advice DID or wish you WOULD have taken before/after surgery that made/would have made your weight loss faster and more constant?
Good question. I guess I would have to say that everything I need to know about life with my band I have learned over time, but knowing that we should just stop eating when full, no matter what is left on the plate, is an important fact.
I totally committed myself to no junk food. No soda, no candy, no chips. There are other things you can add to your list based on your surgery type, but that sort of food is junk for everyone. It has no nutritional value.
I ate goodies on occasion, but those occasions are rare, the amounts were small, and I made sure that what I was going "off-plan" for was something truly delicious and really, really worth it. Example: If it's your birthday and you know you're going to want ice cream, do you really want to eat the crappy grocery store brand, or some Haagen Dazs?
Trying not to eat when I'm not hungry is always a good lesson to learn. I used to just eat all the time, so it was just habit to always want to eat. I caught myself trying to eat when I was already full a few times. Really listen to your body. It's impossible to be perfect all the time, though. I still impulse-eat, or occasionally eat when I'm not really in the mood.
I wish I liked exercising. That would probably make my weight loss faster, but I just hate it too much. If you can bear it, exercise is always a good habit.
