This weekend I am getting things ready for my surgery and I will be doing  a little shopping.  Only two weeks from today!!! So far I have the basics on my list...bottled water, crystal light, splenda, I received my protein powders in the mail today. Do you have any suggestions???  Things you wish you had in the house early out? Thanks in advance~Leslie

A recliner - if at all possible.  I was very uncomfortable laying down for the first 3-4 weeks, so having the recliner set up made things a lot easier on me. A neck pillow - especially if you sleep in the recliner. Don't stock up on too many protien powders, get sample sizes so you can order what you like post-op.  I had canisters of $18-25 protien powder that I couldn't stand post-op - don't waste your money. Have chapstick for the hospital - it was my most important item while there. And for home, a walking buddy is an excellent idea.  Having someone to motivate you to get up and moving could be a great help.  If you get up and walk as much as you can you're going to feel better sooner. Good luck!

You might want some jello, s/f popsicles, and apple juice.  Not a lot of any one item.  But they're nice to have on-hand.  Oh, and liquid Tylenol (not childrens.  get the adult strength.  It's cherry flavored).  It's great once you've been taken off the painkillers.

See, I would have not picked up the liquid tylenol.   Thanks for the tip!

Honestly I wouldnt 'stock up' on anything - just buy enough to make it the first few days.. .then you can figure out what you like and get to the store to buy it. Bottled water is fine because you will always use that. As for crystal lite - some do not like it post-op... I found it waaay to sweet. Spelnda, I rarely use but also have it in the fridge.. doesnt really go bad yaknow?  If you are allowed on your post-op diet I would get a few yogurts, the SF jello pudding cups, SF jello cups and a few soups/broths... again just enough to make it thru. I found I hated the jello pudding post-op because it was too thick... soup had to be very brothy and creamy soups didnt work... I ended up giving away lots of things. I was up and about right after surgery so going to the store wasnt a big deal!

Okay, I will not be "stocking up" on anything.   It is really encouraging that you were up and at 'em right after surgery.  I keep telling myself that I will be fine, and heal quickly...time will tell.  I will be picking up a FEW things. Thanks again!~Leslie

oh yeah. definately do not stock up on anything. i made that mistake. you may not like certain things after ur surgery, or get sick of it real quick. to this day i cant have the grape flavored waters cause i drank too much of it post op. hate jello now, and sugar free pudding. like jenn said. just get a few things to last a few days and go from there. thats what i would do if i could do it all over again.
