I'm sure you'll have a whole group of friends by the day's end!  We rock, of course! Many of us had surgery at a really young age, I was 22 when I had mine.  You'll do just fine :)

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

Hey Welcome. I was 21 when I had lapband.  I think if you really think you are ready and understand all of the changes that you need to do then I dont think you are too young.  I would talk to all the RNYers here and ask about the post-sugery experiences so you truly know.

For my experiences which some are different from what you will experience bc I don't have to worry about dumping.  But it was a complete change.  Like last night I went to a restaurant that is half restaurant half movie.  So you sit and watch the movies and eat, and before I could eat a whole appetizer.entree and then dessert by myself.  last night we got an app, which was dip and chips, I had like 4 chips, then for dinner i got chix tenders with fries.  I had all of the chicken and maybe 4 fries, then we shared an ice cream and i had like 1/4 of it.  So that social aspect is that in your mind you'll want to eat all that food, but physically you cant.  And you have to eat slower, like my sister quickly ate then wanted to order dessert and I was still on my second chicken tender.  I was like wait, give me like 15mins to finish then I can decide if i want some ice cream. lol Like everyone wass ready but me.  that's difficult/annoying to other people. but everyone i was with knew my restrictions so they understand why I take so slow.

I was 19 when I had my RNY and boy was I stinking ready.  You can determine if you are ready or not, there isn't a special age that magically makes everyone ready to handle this surgery.  It's a big change, but you have a lot going for you at 18 that the older crowd doesn't and there is no reason to wait if you and your doc have decided you're ready.  It'll be work, but you can totally do it.  Welcome to the 20's board!
