I am back...feeling a little discouraged.

Been on vacation for almost 2 weeks and now I am back and planning on being more active. I'm only losing like 5 lbs a month now and it's driving me insane. It seems like it's going to take forever to get to goal at this point. I've bumped the exercise up a bit and now my appetite is increasing too ugh. I'm just kind of discouraged too because my Asthma is not very well controlled which leads to me having issues during exercise which tends to bum me out also. Ugh...

Welcome back!  Hope your vacation was wonderful :)  As we all know the weightloss does taper to a more steady rate, and you're correct that is quite discouraging. Have you talked to your doctor about the asthma and exercise?  Maybe they have a better program for you?  I personally have fallen in love with my exercise ball... got mine at Ross for $6 :)  It builds balance and I am finally beginning to do some sit ups on them without falling off! he he

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

I have spoke with my allergy and asthma doctor about the exercise and asthma. His suggestions have been to do a breathing treatment before hand (doesn't work), and he recently gave me an Intal inhaler to use before hand 4-6 puffs after 2 puffs on my Albuterol inhaler. I have an exercise ball but haven't really tried much with it because my balance stinks lol.

It is good to see you!  I hope your vacation was fabulous!  You so deserved it after all you've been through this past year. Appetite is good!  Especially after all you've been through with that awful tube for so long.  Don't be discouraged.  5 pounds a month at about a year out is in the normal range.  Do your best to stick to your eating guidelines and as for exercise, do what you can.  You're going to get there.

Thanks Amy! How are you doing??? One day I feel like im so hungry i could gnaw my arm off and the next day i don't even want to think of food. Its just so weird, I wi**** would even out some. Thanks for the encouragement. I just feel soo bummed because I've only lost like 5 lbs in the past month and a half and next month is my 12 month appointment and based on my weigh in on my consult day last year I will just barely be 100 lbs down. I desperately want to be in Onederland though before I go back which means I have bout 6 lbs to go.

I'm doing really well - much better than the last time we spoke, and it looks like you're doing better too which makes me really happy to know. I have a suggestion, just ignore me if you're already doing this - Make sure that you are eating regularly, with or without an appetite.  I have yet to really get my "hunger" sensation back after surgery, so if I waited until I was hungry to eat I would never eat.  Make sure you're not going more than 4-5 hours between feedings, and try to get a good protien source at every feeding.  That might help get your body out of "starvation" mode and it also might help even out your appetite.   You can get to Onederland, but so much more important is that you're healthier, so make sure to take care of yourself and stay that way.

5 pounds a month is still good! For one thing, it's better than gaining. And another, it takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose one pound, so you know you're still eating few enough calories to continue the weight loss. Keep it up!

Are you using a rescue inhaler before you start your workout? I only have mild asthma, but I found that it helps a lot.

Thanks. I do use my albuterol inhaler before hand and also 4-6 puffs on an Intal inhaler. I still flare a few minutes into it some times. Its just very aggervating.
