Ok so I signed up to this a little while ago but never actually used the forums until now so thought I may as well. I'm 20 just turned 20 in march and will be getting the lap band this year, not sure entirely when as my case is "complicated" I was told last october that I should think about the surgery because of other stuff coming up in my life in the next 5-10 years and that it would be best if I was thinner and healthier when this was going to happen so I thought about it and thought if I could ever afford it I would, then in January I was given an appointment with another doctor who talked to me about it and then some other stuff went on. Then in May I was given a consultation the surgeon who would do the lap band and he basically told me that he was going to do it for me (yay) so the hospital I go to is actually funding the lap band for me (thank god because if they hadn't I would definetly not be able to afford it otherwise) and I've been put on the waiting list, the hospital I go to only does 20 a year so who knows when it could be, they say I'm category 2 which means I was pushed up on the list (yay again) and the usual waiting time for that is 2-5 months so between now and november which is absolutely fine with me, it gives me more time to research and look up stuff about the lap band and find testimonials and get all my stuff together for when I have the surgery. So just wanted to say hi and see how everyone is going with there weight loss and which procedure did you choose? Whether it be lap band, gastric bypass or rouen -xy? I think that's what it is? Anyway what made you decide which one to choose and did you have any negative feedback from people concering you getting weight loss surgery?

Hey welcome! I'm 21 and I just had the RNY last week. I wasn't a candidate for the lap band and didn't like the idea of it. Good luck on your journey!

I too chose Rny because I knew that the lap band wasnt for me I think a good candidate for lap bandn is someone with only abbout 80 to 100 pounds to lose and doesnt binge. i knew that i would cheat with the lapband and risk a band slippage. with the rny you have no choice of overeating and i am very happy with my decision i have lost abou t15 pounds in a week and a half I would just say thouroughly research both before you lock in on the lap band but i am not saying anything bad about it. its just not right for everyone

hey sarah. congratulations and good luck with your decitons of havin wls.

i had rny 5 months ago. because i knew that the band won´t work for me because i din´t eat that muchs my body just can´t handle well all the calories. so te restriction would work for a couple of years and eventualy i`d gain my weight back.

i know a lot of people who had the band and all of them had had complication of had to have it removed. but you been so young it be a good option. do more reserch and make a good deciton. ask your surgeron to help you out. an other important think talk to people who had the band in the past 5 years.

The best of lucks"""""""""""""!!!!!
sincerely

Congrats on the upcoming surgery. That is wonderful that the hospital will pay for it. You may try the different surgery boards to ask questions if you are investigating which surgery to get.  I got the Lap Band in March of this year and am very happy with it so far. I chose the Lap Band because it was basically all the choice I was given. lol

Thanks for all the well wishes, I know everyone is different and has there own preference to which wls they have, the fact that the lap band has come across safer is more my option for it, and yeah theres a risk of slippage but I'd rather have that then have to live on vitamins my entire life, I'm not entirely sure what the rny is so I can't say anything good about that but I'm definetly happy with the choice I'm making, I mean I have about 60kgs to loose which is about 132lbs to loose, I think with the rny you loose more and sure I'd love to lose that straight away but at the moment I'd rather work towards my goal (if that makes sense) I know that if I had more to loose I would probably be more inclined to choose the gastric bypass or rny but I don't have over 200lbs or so to loose so I definetly think this is a better option for me. Again thanks for all the in put =)
