New Starbucks Vivanno Protein Drinks
Just checked out the nutritional info for the much anticipated protein drinks rolled out today....too much sugar for me...bummer...28-32 grams of sugar (depending on the flavor) would put me about four times the legal limit and straight to dump city...If you don't dump though, here's a link to the nut. info on their site:
Well, they don't do breakfast meals anymore right? So this truly is a "meal replacement"
don't sweat it, the 90% of Americans who are not RNY'ers and aren't diabetic (yet) might eat it up...they've got to try some new things to "reinvent" themselves and recapture some of that market share that's been chipped away at by everyone else who caught on to America's Latte addiction...
BTW - I will do some research and attempt some WLS freindly clone recipies for these drinks, of course it won't be as conveniant as a drive-through meal replacement drink, but it might be fun...I'll keep yall posted...

Thanks for that. I kept asking baristas at every Starbucks I go to (several) how much sugar they had and was told they didn't know. Does anyone know if the sugar would be less WITHOUT the banana (as in, Chocolate with a shot of espresso). Lisa? I am glad I didn't decide to try one yesterday after all. =(
On their website they have a section for suggestions, and a protein drink was a suggestion on there. I am glad to see they have taken the peoples' opinions into account. But another very popular suggestion was more low-sugar/sugar free options (Fraps, anyone?). Several people who are post WLS, and also diabetics chimed in to say how much they would like that, and even some normies who are just health-conscious. Hopefully people will continue to make suggestions like this to Starbucks and they'll eventually take it into consideration.

A medium banana has 14 g of sugar....This is a good example of the difference between refined and natural sugars because I eat bananas all the time and don't dump from them, but if I were to eat something with more then about 8 or 9 grams of refined sugar I'd be in dump city...a lot of the rest of the sugar in those drinks comes from milk sugars which hit people differently - for me too much milk sugar makes me dump hard, but others seem to have a better tolerance for them...
