DO NOT READ IF YOUR EASILY OFFENDED... CUSS WORDS USED!

I'm really getting so sick and tired of hearing people telling me that im taking the easy way out and that "I just need to get off my fat ass and excercise.."

Everyone you talk to knows someone who died from it, regrets having it done, or gains the weight back. Honestly.. I dont care anymore.. I dont care who you know that had it done and whatever happened to them. I have researched this long enough (4 years) and I have known TONS AND TONS of more people that have made it through loss the weight, and dont regret a minute of it! Im so tired of negativity. Everyone has a story.. I dont care about your ******g story...!!

This is not taking the easy way out. If it was so easy to just diet and excercise and actually lose the weight AND keep it off, then everyone in the world would be healthy and small. But it isnt that way. And I dont think its the easy way out at all. The people that actually think its easy are the ignorant ones who dont know anything about this surgery. They dont know that you have to change your whole lifestyle to be successful and use this as a tool. They dont know that those people who have gained their weight back, didnt take care of themselves and watch what they ate, and went back to their old ways. They dont know that you still have to excercise, count your calories and make sure your getting enough proteins and vitamins..

Thanks for letting me vent. Im really annoyed and frustrated. I have 3 weeks till surgery and I dont need to be hearing all of these negative things RIGHT NOW! I have done my research I know the complications and the chance of death, but people dont need to keep reminding me! PEople say im too young to be having this surgery... So what do you want me to wait till im 40 and 100 lbs more heavier?!? So I can still waste my life away waiting for this to happen **** NO!

Do you think you took the easy way out? Has it really been easy for you? Let me know....

F*ck 'em. It's your life and your body.

It is not "the easy way out.' This surgery may give you a jumpstart, but it still requires a true commitment on your part to finish the job by following the rules. This includes a healthy diet and excercise... just like everyone else.

Also, even if it were actually the easy way, why in the hell would anyone choose to do something the hard way???

You probably won't be able to convince everyone else that this is the right decision for you, but you don't have to. My advice would be to let the conversation drop instead trying to make them see it from your point of view.

Don't let them get to you.  Once you have it and show them the work you're doing they're shut up.  Right now many are jealous... they're afraid you're going to change.  You won't change, you'll just improve yourself.

Keep your head up, love!

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

Ignorant people will continue to take uninformed stances on weight loss surgery. There's a whole host of reasons why they and even people who are informed will continue to take pot shots at us, but you know and will soon find out first hand that they are dead wrong.

I really don't think it's the easy way out, I actually think dieting and exercise might be easier because in that case you can ignore the rules whenever it is convenient and not get physically sick....Do those people think that having to analyze every item of food you ever consider putting in your mouth easy? No, they don't think that, because most don't even know what dumping syndrome or stuck food is, let alone feels like.

It has been easy for me to lose the weight, but sticking to the rules, and reconciling my new digestive system, with my new body and my old mind - those have been the really challenging aspects. For a while I felt like I was a fat man stuck in a skinny man's body, or a food addict going through withdrawals, but with time, practice, and support it becomes, maybe not easy, but at least manageable.

You are learning I learned before I decided I wanted the surgery....you have to prepare yourself with a thick skin before you talk to anyone about weightloss surgery.

I am yet to meet a person who I tell I had WLS and they just say okay and go on...good, bad, or otherwise people ALWAYS have something to say!

Keep your goals close and your head held high, your day is coming soon!!!

You have every right to vent.  I think most of us can totally relate.  It's even worse when your BMI is right on the cusp of 40 and uninformed people tell you you're too small for surgery (but obviously too fat for general society).  It's a no-win situation.

Yep, you gotta develop a thick skin, or else arm yourself with an arsenal of snarky comments to reply.  You know, "I'm sorry you feel that way." and walk away.  Or "I'm working with my doctor to find a healthy weight, thank you."  You've just gotta make like a duck and let their comments roll off your back like water.  As you said, you're the one *****searched it, you're the one who is being operated on, you're the ONLY one whose opinion matters.

I think sometimes older and/or heavier people are maybe a little jealous that we have decided to take charge of our health before they did.  You know what I mean?

And as for the easy way out, that's my FAVORITE argument for people to toss out.  So I can say "Oh, yes, it's SOOOO much easier having to make sure something's low in sugar so I don't get physically ILL.  And I so enjoy having to watch what I eat every single meal, having people ask why I can't drink and eat at the same time, and having to run to a restroom if I accidentally ate something too fast.  Then there's that whole exercise thing - I'm not sure if you're aware but I still have to exercise like anyone else to lose my weight.  I just happen to have a TOOL that helps me now KEEP IT OFF.  But if you think that's the easy way out...well, I'm sorry you feel that way."

But I'm kind of a smartass lol.

AMEN!!!!  Like i really wanted to have somebody cut me open and rearrange all of my stuff around. At my hospital we had to take classes and go to millions of meetings before we were even approved for the surgery and then there were tests and psych evaluations to make sure that we were doing it for the right reasons and this was a 8 month process! not to mention the weight you have to lose before you even have the surgery. who would want the hassle if it was so much easier to diet and exercise?  Why would we risk over lives if it wasnt worth it. People need to grow up and get a life, its ok to go and get a boob job, but if u go have a surgery that is saving your life and everybody has an attitude! Stay positive and do what is best for you. if at the end of the day you are happy about it then who cares what everyone else thinks. some of my friends and family were so negative before and right after i had mine( i heard all of the star jones jokes) but 77 lbs later everybody is so happy. and i am like who are you people and where are the jerks from a few months ago.you just deal with it and move on

I haven't even been to see a surgeon about WLS (just recently got up the nerve to decide I needed it after much research) but I have to say I know a little about how you feel. Even a commericial on tv for the show "Big Medicine" is enough to get the comments rolling in my family about how people getting WLS are "lazy" and "coping out" and how they should just "get on a diet", meanwhile I sit there dying inside because I know I want WLS and their comments may be a sign of whats to come when I finally say I'm doing it.

You don't know me, but please know I am wishing you all the best in your upcoming surgery. You are doing what's best for you, don't let other people discourage you...only you can live your life.

i always say "this is not the way out it the hardest way out". `cuz this is not just dieting this a change for life!! is a commitment. if you don´t do the right think you get sick and you can hurt your self. so this is very hard deciton and commitment, so don´t let people tell you the oposite. and educate the people that thell you that. `cuz they don´t know what they are talking about.
take care.

and you didn´t take the easy wait out. you were very brave by taking control of your life. so be very proud.
