Hi Pat and Cira,
I was really glad to see Pat at the meeting too! She is very pretty. Just to talk with my friends means a lot to me.
No matter how many meetings we go to, I am always learning something new. Yep, I am losing hair. it actually breaks off on my hairbrush. It took from 2003 to now to get this long. I really do not want to cut it shorter.
I did purchase some protein from the BariGoodEating. I also purchased some Nature's Best Perfect Zero Carb Isopure from the Vitamin World at the Town Center in Charleston which was much cheaper than GNC.
The Vitamin World also had liquid Calcium Citrate there!! That really surprised me. I got the Cherry flavor and the Pina Colada flavor. I like the cherry better but, to be honest, I have to drink it as quick as possible.
I had to cancel my today's visit with Dr. Shin and the Nutritionist due to the weather. So, it was rescheduled until March. I do not like waiting that long. Oh, well.
For those who asked, I live in Elkview, WV. It is about 10 minutes from Charleston. I do need to update my profile and I will. My problem is trying to think of something to say. I have short-term memory loss LOL : )
I do hope we will start talking more with each other. Dr. Shin's group is fantastic. I enjoy it!
Always,
JOY

Hi Joy,
I am so glad that you have access to going to a support group in your area. I have been trying desparately to start one in my area. I have been trying to get in contact with some people but I haven't had the luck of getting a response. I am going to have my first meeting even if it is only 3 people. I am sure that with time people will hear about and chose to stop by. It is so amazing to get the support learn new things and make great friends all in the same process.
I wanted to let you know that I took liquid calcium for the first 4 months post op after that I started to take the pills and I save a lot of money by buying the pills. I buy the ones that are the equivalent to citracal calcium citrate at sam's club. I also get the Equate brand at wlamart pretty cheep. I just like the big bottle at Sams because you get a whole lot more pills which lasts a long time.
Keep us posted on your appt with your surgeon.
Take care!
Hugs,

Hi Pat
I hate that I missed the meeting cause I really could have used it especially with the protein deal .It's so hard getting in all your protein . My 4 week check up is next Wednesday and I'm still hurting on my left side pretty bad .I did have my first dumping episode yesterday and let me tell ya it hurt .It was from peanut butter and I don't know what happened cause I didn't get the foamies like some people talk about before hand .I just know that it will make you think twice before you put anything in your mouth
Hugs ,
Ginger

Hi Ginger,
I am sorry you was not able to make it to the meeting but hopefully you can be there the next time. One thing I want to let you know is that you are very early out so all you can do is work to reaching your goal of protein. But it doesn't mean that you will reach it this early out. It took me to get to almost 3 months post op before I could reach to getting in 65 grams of protein a day.
What I would suggest to you is buying greek yogurt it is hiogh in protein. It tastes like sour cream so you can add s/f pudding to it with splenda or fresh fruit with splenda. You can drink your protein drinks to help reach your goal. This is a slow process getting there you can not force it. It will get easier day by day I promise you that.
As for the pain on your side I had that for a good while too. Just make sure to let your doctor know if it doesn't go away soon.
Now as for the peanut butter episode from what you explained it doesn't seem like dumping. It is dry and it might have just gotten stuck. I couldn't eat peanut butter that early out eaither it would go down really hard. I could only lick it little by little from a spoon and it would take me over an hour to lick one tbs.
Just remember to take your time since you are so early out. I am here for you if you need to ask a question or just talk. send me a message anytime.
Hugs to you!

When was your surgery? Mine was 1/23. I hate missing the groups but since I don't drive its pretty much impossible for me to get to them. My sister will be going before long she had to wait till my surgery was done (chicken) lol. Shes closer to Chas than I am so I would think after she gets going she will be attending more meetings. I've been off the board for awhile now, sorry but it moves a bit slow for me but it is nice to stop in once in awhile and see a familiar face and know things went well.

Karen - I was sorry to read of your surgery date change but, as Cira said, this way they can make sure everything will go well for you. That has to give you some comfort. Only 5 more days!! We'll be thinking of you! I agree with you, Joy, that it's nice to speak with other patients of Dr. Shin's. The support group meeting was very enjoyable as well as informative. Hopefully Ginger - you will make the March meeting on 3/3. I don't know what the topic will be. I do understand that Dr. Stickler has a store of barriatric products by his office at North Gate. I was told the prices for protein drinks, bars, etc. are very good and better than buying on-line. Everyone is welcome - not just his patients. I haven't been there yet myself. - Pat
