DH is home! So great to have him here though he did get up terribly early this morning (5:30). His flight arrived 15 minutes early yesterday but a thunderstorm was starting so they only let about 1/3 of the people off before they stopped the deplaning due to the lightening risk. DH was one of the last ones off. That is a problem with this small airport where one has to walk down stairs from the plane then outside to the terminal. Anyway, good thing he didn't have to wait because we had our bocce team arriving for a pre-game get together 2 hours after that. But the storm was so intense we weren't sure people would be able to make it - there were numerous power outages and lightning strikes in the area. Luckily it calmed down by the time they were coming and all went well. We have a new couple joining our team who are also new to the community. Really nice people! Another couple who were new last year also made it and we got to know them better which was great.
This morning Justice is going for a teeth cleaning. Feeling very nervous about that because last year when he had it done was so traumatic. Maybe because he had more major teeth removed but I couldn't help but think that maybe they didn't give him enough injectable painkiller. Within an hour or so of being home he was whimpering and would not open his mouth at all to drink water and certainly not to take a pain pill. I spoke to the new vet about the experience and I think he will be well taken care of. They don't seem to handle as many animals in this practice so I feel like they will be more attentive.
Hoping Paula didn't report in yesterday because they were working on a house offer.
No plans for dinner after our first bocce game - I need to think about something.
But right now it is time to get a Justice walk before he goes to the vet. Have a winning Wednesday!

Good morning! Welcome home to your DH! I hope Justice's appointment goes much better than last year. Bocce ball sounds like a fun way to socialize. We'd love to be the new couple joining you. :) DH has expressed some interest in PickleBall. He played a lot of tennis when he was younger, so he'd probably do great. I still contend I am not made for chasing balls type games, but tossing a ball I might be able to do.
The foggy and clouds burned off yesterday and it was a beautiful fall day. More days in store according to the extended forecast, even some days in the low 80s. Wonderful.
I noticed the neighborhood was quieter yesterday. Today I saw the kiddos heading for the bus stop while I was in the kitchen making my tea. They'll be back around 3:30pm with all the energy and action. It wasn't that long ago that I was the Mom walking my little ones to the bus stop.
While I was away my Zinnias exploded! I made 2 bouquets yesterday evening after I finished unpacking. Yeah, I did get that done, but still need to wash dresses and sweaters, which I think takes a little more care. No freezes predicted yet, so I don't know if the buds that have been set will actually bloom. At this time of year, it's more a question of light.
Yesterday and today I am alone upon waking. Yesterday I thought about how I hadn't been alone for a month. I love my family, but I don't mind some down time. DH gets home around noon. One plan for today is a visit to the farmer's market in our little downtown. I want to make ratatouille, but our market is small and I don't know if anyone will have eggplant. We'll see. Tomorrow we will go visit my parents.
Yes, I am down about 2 pounds since before I left on my trip, confirmed by a real weigh in this morning. I told DH I would commit to having some kind of dinner for us around 5:30pm each night. I think we've been snacking too much. If I know I will be eating in 2 hours and I'm hungry, I am more likely to choose a small snack like a handful of grapes or a cheese stick to tide me over. I also think psychologically it feels better to have a meal, even if it is a small meal. Maintaining (or losing) for me is never mastered, but always something I'm tweaking. The good fight goes on!
Monkey wrenches thrown my way... I'm supposed to transport trophies to to Pennsylvania. They were supposed to arrive today. No such luck. They have have to be in Pennsylvania by October 4th. Ron may have to ship them from here to the hotel where I am staying in PA. Dang!!! Always a complication of one sort or another.
Weight still at 206... booooooooooooo
Hope Justice does better this time around. Coming out of anesthesia is not always so easy for older dogs. I wonder if he was having a reaction to the anesthesia as well as having a lot of pain. Sure sounds like it to me.
Packing and trimming on the docket for today.
Hopefully, hitting the road bright and early tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
