Busy day yesterday whi*****luded my visit with the osteoporosis specialist. Older guy but seems to know his stuff. He wants to start me on Evenity which will be an injection every month for a year, then I would be moved to Prolia which is an injection every 6 months. I guess the Evenity will build new bone, then the Prolia will help maintain it. When I am on Cape Cod in the summer I would go to an infusion clinic there to get it.

The doctor didn't suggest much in the way of additional exercise other than doing some exercises while holding weights - like squats. Maybe going up and down stairs with weights would be good? I am so bad at keeping up with anything not at a class that I am afraid to say I will do it then not carry through.

Today there is only one thing on the agenda: yoga at 10. Maybe DH and I should do a date night? I feel like we haven't done one for a long time - we have been out with friends, but not alone other than for a quick bite at the Mexican place now and then.

DS is currently at the airport in Las Vegas waiting in line to check his bag for a 5:20 am flight. The counters aren't even open yet but he said there are 100 people in line ahead of him. I told him not to stress but that is easier said than done. Hopefully he makes it to Denver, then to Portland without issues.

The sun is coming up and it looks beautiful out. I should throw a load of laundry in and get ready to take Justice for his walk. Have a successful Saturday!

I was going to do Prolia, but my endocrinologist was very firm that it had to be done every six months on the dot, if I missed the deadline, a risk of fractures increased. The way the timing was shaking out, it seemed like I could be in Brazil when it was time for the 2nd shot, so I asked for a different medication. Prolia also took some hoop jumping to get approved, I was eventually, but then declined.

Cold here today. There is some snow in other parts of the state, but not here in the Twin Cities. My brother sent me a picture of my Mom in her recliner at home and said the hospital discharged her Friday afternoon. He did not say why. My guess would be that they thought they had safely helped her shed excess fluid as much as they were going to. The medical staff again offered hospice, but my Mom declined. If my Dad chooses to go deer hunting next weekend, I will be at their house to take care of my Mom Friday, Saturday and Sunday. With that in mind, I'm staying put this weekend. My Dad did not go to deer camp this weekend, and my SIL stayed back also so she could help get my Mom settled back at home. I doubt much has changed, except my SIL did say she set up my Mom's meds. That is a relief.

My favorite appliance, my dishwasher, leaked all over my wood floors last night! I think they're okay, but if not DH says he has spare planks in the basement. He put the floors in, and bought an extra box in case he would ever need to replace any planks due to damage. The dishwasher is only a couple years old and is miles better than my previous one, hence my favorite appliance. DH has diagnosed a failed gasket and is replacing it right now. I don't know if any of you have ever seen the comic Red Green. One of his saying my husband likes is , If women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy. I definitely find him both!

Tonight we have tickets to the Minnesota Orchestra. There is a guest vocalist. I love our Orchestra (world renowned!) and especially love when they have some vocal performances to accompany them. We haven't seen a performance of live music or theater for a few weeks, so I am really looking forward to it.

Interesting that it was approved then declined. I think the Medigap plan I am on should pick it up but I guess we will see. Good to know about the importance of the timing!

Greetings all

Big sun today and it is nice. No plans other than to get to the gym and watch football. Our team plays late but I am amused by most any game. Leftovers set for dinner so no big chores ahead. Life is good. I do need to get my hair washed along with some clothes but not a big deal. I have not heard from studio buddy who often invites herself over for football but I am prepared to say no company today.

Yep do a date night Liz. Amazing that you are out with friends so much! Good on you. Wishing you the best with the prolia. Glad the doctor seems good. But doesn't it strike you as odd that after we all did all this stuff to get rid of excess weight only to be told to do weight bearing exercise using some hand weights?? I have my own built in weight bearing exercise equipment. That is one reason I do the treadmill and not an x bike or something - weight bearing exercise for me. I have osteopenia and think i am not far behind you all. Wishing best to DS and flight. I sure would not want to be flying right now. However, a new airline is starting a direct flight from here to Las Vegas this spring. I am really yearning to go see the Wizard of Oz at the Sphere.....

DD glad your mom got home with minimal drama to you. You have a good bro. But I guess you will get your share when your dad goes deer hunting. Good that the meds got organized. Sending you strength for when it is your turn. I would be tempted to smoke something. Drank my way through crazy pat. Enjoy the orchestra. Love a full orchestra sound.

CC we love Slow Horses! Best show on tv. Lamb is a hoot. Apple tv has a lot of good stuff.

Well I had better get moving before I rationalize my way out of the gym.

DS got home with no glitches! He will be in his apartment by 5 with the evening ahead of him at home and tomorrow to relax. When he does these conferences they are 2 days of travel and 6 long days of work with evenings out. He is tired!

I hear you on the weight bearing! We need to be thinner for things like high blood pressure and diabetes but then our bones suffer. Apparently the fact that I went through menopause relatively early and never took any hormones because the research at that time said the risk of heart damage outweighed the benefits to bones and reduced hot flashes did not help at all. Sigh... I was osteopenia for about 10 years, now I tipped over the limit. I got the feeling that the physician felt that treatment should start earlier (while still osteopenia to avoid osteoporosis) but my guess is that medical coverage wouldn't approve it.

121.9 today. Still good!

I never had my bone density checked. Should one at a given age? Is it a standard test? I know my grandmother suffered from osteoporosis.

DD, if your Mom needs a lot of medical supplies etc. hospice is great as there is no cost. Need a wheelchair or walker or hospital bed, they have it delivered. Need meds, they provide it. They also do home visits as needed to assess vitals, progression of disease etc. What it is not though is home nursing. Family still had to do the majority of the care and it's not easy! There is in hospital hospice if needed/desired though!

3 days left before we leave for FL. Really hoping to miss the first snow but it is going to be close! We will get our share when we come back this way for Christmas!

Liz, glad DS's flight didn't get canceled. What a mess right now!

Diane, just say no to unwanted guests! Enjoy the game with DH!
