So smoky here from Canadian fires. And I'm losing track of the number of times my dad has been in the hospital this year. Poor guy. They just kept him overnight this last week. His kidney numbers are really bad and his stent clogged yet again. That's the main thing going on here this summer. He wants to go to Mayo again to see if they have any ideas.
On a fun note, we are meeting with the architect in a week to talk about reworking my two bathrooms and my folks have decided they want to expand their bedroom, bath, and closet. I need to decide if I want to switch bedrooms in my cottage (there is no distinct main bedroom of the two), but the other one is really dark. It has a tiny sitting room with a fireplace at the front with north facing windows (little light), a small window in the bathroom to the east, and a window in the closet to the back (south), but no windows in the bedroom itself. It feels like a cave to me. To get light would mean either adding a skylight or a dormer. Do I want to go to that expense? The roof was just replaced this year. The issue with my current room is the bathroom doesn't have access from the bedroom and you have to walk in front of the glass entry door to get to it. Hmm. Decisions.
So that's all that's going on here...
We leave Block Island in a few hours. The hot and sunny weather is also departing today but it held out for us. Next trip is back to our Florida place in a week, staying for 10 days. That's an easy trip - not much to pack and an easy flight.
Yesterday we did skip renting bikes as it would have been way too hot. So we did a lot of walking instead, ending up at the beach after lunch. This morning we are going out for breakfast shortly since we will be traveling through mid-day. We plan to get the 10 am ferry which gets us back to RI at 11, then a 2 hour drive to pick up Justice plus another 45 minutes beyond that to the house. So ETA around 2:00 by which time it may be raining.
Peps, congratulations on getting your Dad moved. It looks like a nice place and I'm sure it will be a relief to know he is safe.
Have a thriving Thursday!

Probably a relief at this point?

I would love to replace a lot of kitchen items at DH's Cape house but it is mostly all off-limits. So much stuff and a lot of it really old and banged up. I did buy new measuring cups and spoons because both sets are missing some pieces. I think DH's DD makes a lot by eyeballing the amounts. I can't do that.

Good to know that you are way out of the possible Tsunami zone. I can see why thinking about having property on the coast there would give one pause. Here the danger is hurricanes.

Wow! I didn't realize you were possibly moving this fast with plans for Florida! Last year I put my house on the market in mid-July and sold it in mid-October. Not too far off your potential timeline.

Potential house buyer wants to move ASAP, so we are no longer in the race to sell!
Liz loved the pictures of your resort and the Adirondack chairs. We were at a resort in Door County that had Adirondacks on the grass overlooking Lake Michigan, which is why we now have 2 chairs in our front yard, because DH liked the vibe so much. Sadly our view does not include ocean or lake. But its still a nice shady spot to sit.
Wow Paula, already listing your house for this one buyer at least accelerates your timeline!
Today was a do some tasks day. I started with a workout to the soundtrack of a Chorus Line, one of my faves. Bought a few groceries and made an appetizer to bring to my friend's house tonight. I bought a new set of pots and pans at Costco last week, but had yet to unpack them. They are bigger than my current set, so I had to do some purging in the kitchen. I drug a ton of stuff out from that one cupboard I always seem to have full of nonsense. Sorting, purging, all while consulting with DH. The new pots are placed so they are handy, the old ones tossed as they were very worn and the unearthed seldom used appliances ( wafflemaker, panni press etc) either tossed or stored elsewhere. A few things were salvageable we didn't want. I will offer them to my nephew.
Time to get ready to go out. Old fashioneds await!
You know you live in a unique place in the world when your big box store is in a tsunami zone! I suppose my Target is in a tornado zone, but tsunami zone sounds so much more exotic to this midwesterner.
Greetings all
It is overcast here which is so common in our fog zone. We have the tv on to the Weather Channel and BBC to learn about this earthquake and tsunami. The BBC really has much better news than any US stations and they go into some depth and not just headlines. CNN and MSNBC mostly just have talking heads giving opinions.
So there were some bigger waves at the coast here and some action at Crescent City (60 miles north) which always gets bad stuff if there are tsunamis. They were hit badly in the 64 Alaska quake and also Fukushima. So we are still under caution but our town is up on cliffs about 150 feel above sea level so we are out of the zone and safe. The studio, however, is at about 10 feet above sea level and is in the zone. Though I think the danger is pretty low I think I will stay away from the studio today. Need to visit the gym which is also safely out of the zone.
Yay Peps Dad all moved! Glad it went smoothly and he seems content. Hope he is enjoying his new surroundings and feels comfortable.
Block Island looks wonderful Liz. Like a step back in time indeed. Might be fun to leave phones behind when sitting in the Adirondack chairs on a porch. I would skip bikes. No need to sweat.
Nice Paula that you work the church garden and supply food for others. Interesting on the house inquiry. Might just be good Karma.
Not going to Target today as it is in the tsunami zone. Kind of a trek there anyway. I need to just order some stuff from Lands End or something.
Yoo hoo CC report in please. Ditto others. You know who you are.
