Good morning to everyone in the US for whom it is still the middle of the night LOL.

Yesterday was a good day but I have to admit that I am feeling a little bored. Much less activity than I am used to. I went with more or less well SIL and met DSD at a big open air market set up on many sprawling streets on Sundays in the morning. In the afternoon, both SILs, DSD, and I went to the Prado Museum for 2 hours which was just about the right amount of time for all of us. I pushed SIL in the wheelchair. We had a quick tapas meal near the museum and were back home by 6:30. More or less well SIL was in bed at 7:30, though the other SIL and I were up until 10 watching Derry Girls.

I say more or less well SIL because she had a really hard time walking up the hills and with the heat. She also kept falling asleep for brief periods sitting up from about mid-day on. Might be her weight, but possibly she was coming down with a cold because she was somewhat congested. Doesn't bode well for today if she is.

Less well SIL is better but one major activity a day seems to be all she can handle. Today we are going to a Flamenco in late afternoon, then all 6 of us (SILS, DSD, nephew, niece, and I) have dinner reservations at Botin, the oldest restaurant in the world.

I may take a long walk on my own this morning as I don't think SILs are going to want to do anything until this afternoon. DSD has been keeping herself amused in the mornings going to yoga and Pilates classes.

After seeing Peps question about front vs back porches, I realize that seeing (and hearing and smelling) the outside is critical for me. This apartment has NO VIEWS of the outside. All windows are frosted/curtained. There is only one window that can open which I do open in the morning so I can hear the outside but you still can't see it. I'm feeling very shut in.

My weird skin disease has abated mostly after using the prescription steroid cream prescribed by my NP. No new breakouts and everything is in the healing stage so I am wearing fewer and fewer bandaids. Hopefully I will be able to wear the more supportive shoes I brought soon. I couldn't wear them previously because the blisters were too painful with them on so I have had to wear less supportive sandals. Luckily we haven't done a lot. After DH arrives I expect we will be walking more and I will need that better footwear.

Have a marvelous Monday!

Funny how immediately after seeing a gorgeous home one feels like they really want to make a move, but then reality sets in. I've had that happen quite a few times. Last time it was viewing a home that had probably twice the square footage of our house with ceilings probably twice as high (so lots more volume obviously). Once reality hit I realized that we decided on a maximum amount of square footage for a reason.

Wow, your vacation weight is just dropping off now that you are back. Doesn't that feel great? And I do think excess weight makes a big difference how heat and humidity affect you.

East coasters mostly sit on back porches/lanais too. Though older New England homes often have front porches I guess so they could watch the neighbors LOL? I never had a home like that though.

I'm going to try that! Thanks for the recipe.

I do think you might want to eat a bit more. Seems like you had really low calories for quite a while. You are pretty close in size to me but probably have more muscle. After VSG I counted all my calories and determined that I needed to average at about 1350 calories a day to maintain at a lower weight than I am now. So I would guess you need somewhere around 1500-1600?

DH is arriving on Wednesday for the wedding Thursday and the rest of my travels (to Poland and London) will be with him alone. This first week was our every 5 year trip with my SILs. But DSD is here and my nephew and niece starting later today because they are also arriving for the wedding.

The heat has been okay for me but not so for my somewhat well SIL. She has a really hard time with it likely because of her weight.

You know I am missing home already. It think because I miss DH and Justice and I miss having outside space. I envy you getting home!

Greetings all

Another beautiful day. It is foggy at a few spots along the coast but not right here. Late morning studio buddy picked me up and we went to this other friend's house. She had recently finished building a MIL unit on her property and had quite a bit of tile and some other building supplies left over. So they were gifted to studio buddy who is also building a house (still after 4 years). Really nice stuff. Friend Alex is a super artist and really has a good eye. So we goofed around and toured the MIL unit again which is now occupied by some nice people who will watch out for Alex who is 80 years old. It takes a village. After all that it was time to discuss TVs with DH who is very opinionated on electronics. Whatever.

Liz that paella looks so good. I don't think I have ever had it but was listening to an NPR radio show about how to best cook it. Glad you are finding your way with the heat and SIL. Enjoy.

DD glad you are finished with nursing home duty. Down time needed. Tea time with the plants.

Paula we love that ruffly blue dress. Bet it is a hit.

Peps I was pretty sure those vay-cay pounds would drop off. May years ago I used to get up at 4 am to go to dog shows. Not anymore. So yeah I may waddle in in time for owner handled groups which I totally expect you to be in. Are you camping at the show grounds?

The coast guard helicopters are always flying around here on the weekends. The base is close. They fly in big circles and sometimes it is right over our house. Noisy.

Speaking of houses, I think that fancy one is a pipe dream. I can't even get this house picked up; much less plan a move.

Steak tonight,

Diane S

It was good! I used more sauce on the chicken then called for and used fresh mozzarella on top (I had it on hand which is why I was making this dish in the first place).

Gorgeous Paella!!!! Looks delish! Liz, you are experiencing the same type of heat we get here. Our highs are usually around 5-6 pm. It really doesn't start to get cool outside until the sun starts to really dip around 8pm. Being someone who grew up in this dry heat climate, I much prefer it to the humidity and lesser temps on the east coast. Humidity kills me. (Though, I'm wondering if at a normal weight, it wouldn't bother me as much????) Hope that ill SIL taking it easy yesterday helps her today!

DD, your week away from home was certainly no vacation! You must be exhausted, and not in the fun exhausted way a fun filled vacation leaves you! Enjoy your porch time. Question: Have you both a front and back porch? Where do you spend your porch time? In CA, front porches are not at all a thing. We are back yard people.

201.9 today. Only 1.1 over my departure weight. I think this quick drop is due to water loss and a middle of the night poop! LOL! Oh, and maybe because I did get to the gym yesterday. Oh, boy... it felt great! I did a full body workout as is warranted after a break, and my legs are already feeling the four sets of deep squats and four sets of kettle bell swings. My chest is beginning to feel it, too. Hopefully, I didn't push my back to hard... I don't like having super sore back muscles.

My client obligations for today are already met, so the rest of the day is mine. I will go say Hi to dad and see what else I can get accomplished here at home. Lots and lots to do, but only a few things I WANT to do.

One of the owlets fledged itself last night a bit too prematurely, IMO. The dogs terrorized it. I was able to get the dogs in, scoop up the owlet and put it on the other side of the fence in to be safe from my murderous canines. It was gone this morning, so I'm going to believe that is a good sign. My guess is that it either got it's wings working and is back in the owl box, or it wandered off and got picked up by a natural predator, of which there are plenty around here.

Diane S., looking forward to seeing you next Saturday. Yes, I know 8 am is a "tad too early" for you. I'll see you when I see you!

Super Sunday, peeps!

How did I not realize until today that DH wasn't traveling with you Liz? I bet you do miss him and I bet it is mutual. At least Justice still gets Dad at home!

Safe travels back home DD. Enjoy your gardening, reading, theater and of course the coffee shop!

122.6 today so back up a bit even though calories were on the low side yesterday. I think part of the weight loss may have been dehydration which thankfully is pretty easy to remedy.

Church today. I got to wear another fun summer dress today for the first time, actually the blue one with the ruffles! Weather is hot enough that there won't be a DH walk this afternoon but I think I might hop on the treadmill. No formal exercise yesterday but I did get in 10000 steps with the Zoo visit plus other walking around in Milwaukee.

I plan to make air fryer chicken parm tonight for dinner. I've never made chicken parm before (that I can remember). Hope it is good!
