I AM APPROVED!!!!! I am just waiting for my surgical counsult but it looks li ke July 18th will be my new birthdate!!

Wow, it has been a while since I have updated. Life is completely different now. I am now seeing Dr. Mihalakakos out of St. Joe's in Joliet. He is a sweetie. His requirements are that all pre-op tests be preformed before you are even submitted into insurance. He wants to make sure you are the ideal candidate before he even thinks about operating on you.
I have had all of my tests done, just waiting for all of the paper work to be turned into him and then for them to submit to my insurance. I did "fail" the sleep apnea test and have to have that test repeated. I hope that the addition of sleep apnea to my already full plate of co-morbidities will be enough to have insurance pay for the surgery. I am still thinking that I have that six month doctor supervised diet to deal with but every day that it takes to even be submitted to insurance is one day towards that six month mark!!! I am now hoping to have surgery sometime between February and April. Wish me luck :)
Wow, I guess I never update this. I have been denied by insurance due to needing a six to twelve month dietician/doctor supervised diet. As of today (4/14/05) I am in my fifth month of going four times a month to the dietician and doctor. I am now hoping that at the end of May the doctor will resubmit to my insurance and I will be having surgery somewhere around August.

Contacted by doctors office. The said that my insurance requires a six month diet plan supervised by a dietician and by my doctor. I see my doctor next week. I will talk to her about this set back.

I had my psych exam and that went fine. He actually encouraged me to have the surgery.

Well my life has changed since I last updated. Lets see, I am no longer going to The Barix Center. I am now going to Dr. Mihalakakos out of St. Joe's hospital in Joliet. He will not submit to my insurance until all pre-op tests are complete. I am scheduled for my sleep apnea test and my phsyiatrist meeting both in the middle of November. I guess until those are over I am on hold. I hate hold!!!

I do not know where to begin.
I have said for years that I would do this in a minute if my insurance would cover it. Never once thought about looking into if they would cover, just always assumed that they would not.
Then I went to the doctor. She said that I was developing type II diatbetes and I said no way am I taking meds for that. I already have high blood pressure, I will not do it. Left there, called insurance and here I am today.
I had my first consultation with Dr. Boe on September 22nd, my ekg on September 27th and am having my psych exam today. After that everything will be submitted to my insurance.
